Sufficient cause interactions concern cases in which there is a particular causal mechanism for some outcome that requires the presence of 2 or more specific causes to operate. Empirical conditions have been derived to test for sufficient cause interactions. However, when regression outcome models are used to control for confounding variables in tests for sufficient cause interactions, the outc...

Synthetic biology can be defined as applying engineering approaches, such as part standardisation, abstraction and mathematical modelling, to the design and engineering of novel biological systems. Engineering transcriptional networks presents many challenges including inherent uncertainty in the system structure, changing cellular context and stochasticity in the governing dynamics. One approa...

In this paper a model to accurately evaluate even in a pencil-and-paper manner the oscillation frequency of a ring oscillator made up by a CML or ESCL differential gate is proposed. The model allows us to simply estimate the oscillation frequency changes due both to the bias current change and to process tolerances. The model was validated by Spice simulations on both 6and 20-GHz technologies f...

We report on a synchronization-breaking instability observed in a noisy oscillator unidirectionally coupled to a pacemaker. Using a phase oscillator model, we find that, as the coupling strength is increased, the noisy oscillator lags behind the pacemaker more frequently and the phase slip rate increases, which may not be observed in averaged phase models such as the Kuramoto model. Investigati...

with rapid economic development and industrialization, the construction industry continues to rank among the most hazardous industries in the world. therefore, construction safety is always a significant concern for both practitioners and researchers. the objective of this study was to create a structural modeling of components that influence the safety performance in construction projects.we f...

Modulation of biological oscillations by stimuli lies at the root of many phenomena, including maintenance of circadian rhythms, propagation of neural signals, and somitogenesis. While it is well established that regular periodic modulation can entrain an oscillator, an aperiodic (noisy) modulation can also robustly entrain oscillations. This latter scenario may describe, for instance, the effe...

In this paper, a new intelligent portable mechanical system is introduced experimentally and theoretically to detect damage employing the fuzzy-genetic algorithm EMD. For purpose, acceleration-time history obtained from three points of simply-supported beam utilizing accelerometer sensors. The gained signal decomposed into small components by using an EMD method. Each component contains specifi...

The complex nature of the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is often simplified through the use of conceptual models, each of which offers a different perspective on the ocean–atmosphere feedbacks underpinning the ENSO cycle. One theory, the unified oscillator, combines a variety of conceptual frameworks in the form of a coupled system of delay differential equations. The system produces a se...

Absfract—This paper describes and analyzes the circuits which have been used successfully for TRAPATT oscillator studies. The results lead to a better understanding of the TRAPATT oscillator and yield a simple model of the oscillator which is useful for circuit design. The circuit characteristics of ms experimental TRAPATT oscillator are determined from measurements on the circuits and from equ...

The paper analyzes the interaction of an atomic system with a quantum damped harmonic oscillator. Such an oscillator is the building block in the recently proposed models of bulk dielectrics and may also serve as a simple model of a small dielectric body. Dispersion and losses are taken into account by assuming the oscillator to be coupled to a zero-temperature reservoir consisting of an infini...
