Supercritical fluid extraction (SCFE), based on the utilization of a fluid under supercritical conditions, is a technology suitable for extraction and purification of a variety of compounds, particularly those that have low volatility and/or are susceptible to thermal degradation. The interest in SCFE is promoted by legal limitations of conventional solvents for food and pharmaceutical uses. Th...

We report the results of a series of molecular dynamics simulations of water inside a carbon-slit pore at supercritical conditions. A range of densities corresponding from liquid (0.66gcm;{-3}) to gas environments (0.08gcm;{-3}) at the supercritical temperature of 673K were considered. Our findings are compared with previous studies of liquid water confined in graphene nanochannels at ambient a...

A new and economically attractive type of geothermal resource was recently discovered in the Krafla volcanic system, Iceland, consisting of supercritical water at 450 °C immediately above a 2-km deep magma body. Although utilizing such supercritical resources could multiply power production from geothermal wells, the abundance, location and size of similar resources are undefined. Here we prese...

This paper primarily concerns strictly supercritical fluid models, which arise as functional law of large numbers approximations for overloaded processor sharing queues. Analogous results for critical fluid models associated with heavily loaded processor sharing queues are contained in Gromoll et al. [9] and Puha and Williams [15]. An important distinction between critical and strictly supercri...

The direct measurement of the chemistry in reactor cores is extremely difficult. The extreme conditions of high temperature, pressure, and radiation fields, are not compatible with normal chemical instrumentation. There are also problems of access to fuel channels in the reactor core. For these reasons, all reaction vendors and many operators have extensively used theoretical calculations and c...

high pressures also requires special equipment. In summary, both RESS crystallization and SAS crystallization appear to be promising methods for generating supersaturation and therefore represent alternatives to conventional crystallization. Such alternatives may prove attractive in applications such as polymer and pharmaceutical processing, or in particle design for drug delivery. It is possib...

Supercritical growth: The formation and evolution of ceria nanoparticles during hydrothermal synthesis was investigated by in situ total scattering and powder diffraction. The nucleation of pristine crystalline ceria nanoparticles originated from previously unknown cerium dimer complexes. The nanoparticle growth was highly accelerated under supercritical conditions.

This paper presents the fabrication of controlled release devices for anticancer drug paclitaxel using supercritical antisolvent method. The thermodynamic and hydrodynamic effects during supercritical antisolvent process on the particle properties obtained were investigated. Scanning electron microscopy was employed to study particle sizes and morphologies achieved. It was observed that increas...

The CO2-brine dissolution homogenizes the distribution of residual CO2 and reduces the leakage risk in the saline aquifer. As a key parameter to immobilize the free CO2, the dissolution rate of CO2-brine could be accelerated through mechanisms like diffusion and dispersion, which are affected by the subsurface condition, pore structure, and background hydrological flow. This study contributed t...

This study investigates the differences between the predictions of various properties of rigid and flexible simple point charge water models at supercritical conditions. Molecular dynamics simulations were conducted for supercritical water in a temperature range of 773-1073 K and densities in the range 115-659 kg/m3. We present thermodynamic data, pair correlation functions, selfdiffusivity, po...
