Twin reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP) syndrome is a rare condition (0.3:10,000 births) that occurs in monochorionic twin pregnancies, resulting in coexistence of a normal "pump" twin and an acardiac twin. The acardiac twin is dependent upon the normal twin to provide circulation by means of vascular anastomosis. Many of the bizarre defects are felt to be caused by low oxygen tension and this ...

"Healthy Twin" is a twin family study extension of the existing Korean Twin-Family Register. Healthy Twin recruits adult like-sex twins over the age of 30 and their adult family members. Healthy Twin protocols are primarily tailored to the study of the quantitative trait loci of complex traits as well as to the role of environment in the etiology of complex diseases. A full-length survey is und...

Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome is a severe complication occurring in 10% of monochorionic twin pregnancies. The disease is usually explained as due to an intrauterine imbalance in intertwin blood exchange, which leads to a volume depleted-donor twin and an overfilled recipient twin. The recipient has signs of cardiac dysfunction, which can be measured using echocardiography or blood and amni...

Stress-relaxation experiments were performed on nanotwinned Cu to characterize the twin size-dependence of the activation volume and mobile dislocation density. We find that the variation of activation volume as a function of twin lamellae thickness can be captured well by a Hall–Petch-type relation. This structure size-dependence is interpreted to arise from a transition of the rate-controllin...

The field of prenatal diagnosis of congenital anomalies has had great advances in recent years. Today we are able to diagnose different fetal anomalies in early developmental stages, and correct some of them, through prenatal fetal surgery. In this paper, we begin by describing the advances in surgical treatment of some fetal diseases such as, diaphragmatic hernia, lung sequestration, pleural e...

BACKGROUND Causative gene mutations have been identified in about 2% of those with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often, but not always, when there is a strong family history. There is an assumption that there is a genetic component to all ALS, but genome-wide association studies have yet to produce a robustly replicated result. A definitive estimate of ALS heritability is therefore requi...

Two Steiner triple systems, each containing precisely one Pasch configuration which, when traded, switches one system to the other, are called twin Steiner triple systems. If the two systems are isomorphic the systems are called identical twins. Hitherto, identical twins were only known for orders 21, 27 and 33. In this paper we construct infinite families of identical twin Steiner triple systems.

Data collected from groups of relatives, such as monozygotic and dizygotic twin pairs provide an opportunity to test alternative hypotheses about factor structure and the origins of covariation across time. Such data create a need for multiple-group modeling as well as the ability to constrain parameters to be equal between the family members. These constraints in turn provide the opportunity t...

In this study, four humor styles (affiliative, self-enhancing, aggressive, self-defeating) were assessed in conjunction with a measure of the HEXACO model of personality, in order to gain greater insight into the etiology of these humor styles, and to situate them better in the framework of human personality. Participants were 664 monozygotic twin pairs and 522 dizygotic twin pairs from the Uni...
