Background and Objective: Evaluation of the results, safety, and stability of ferrara intracorneal ring segment (FICRS) implantation for Keratoconus correction (age range was 24.39±8.32 years).   Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial study, 64 eyes of 57 patients with keratoconus and clear cornea that had FICRS implantation were studied. Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best-spectacl...

BACKGROUND Refractive error is defined as the inability of the eye to bring parallel rays of light into focus on the retina, resulting in nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (Hyperopia) or astigmatism. Uncorrected refractive error in children is associated with increased morbidity and reduced educational opportunities. Vision screening (VS) is a method for identifying children with visual ...

Estimates of the prevalence of visual impairment caused by uncorrected refractive errors in 2004 have been determined at regional and global levels for people aged 5 years and over from recent published and unpublished surveys. The estimates were based on the prevalence of visual acuity of less than 6/18 in the better eye with the currently available refractive correction that could be improved...

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of topography-guided ablation using the WaveLight 400 Hz excimer laser in laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for hyperopia and/or hyperopic astigmatism. METHODS We prospectively evaluated 208 consecutive LASIK cases for hyperopia with or without astigmatism using the topography-guided platform of the 400 H...

purpose: to evaluate visual outcomes after deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (dalk) in patients with keratoconus. methods: in this interventional case series, patients with moderate to advanced keratoconus underwent dalk. inclusion criteria consisted of contact lens intolerance or poor spectacle-corrected visual acuity. dalk was performed using the big-bubble technique introduced by anwar and...

This paper is a review of the literature surrounding the potential impact of undiagnosed and untreated refractive vision problems on reading development in the early years of primary school. Despite pre-school screening programmes, it is still possible for children to enter school with undiagnosed or uncorrected refractive vision problems. This paper generally discusses correlations between ref...

purpose : to investigate the application of mitomycin-c 0.02% (mmc) in the photorefractive keratectomy (prk) procedure in correcting regressed myopia methods : eighteen eyes of 11 patients with a spherical equivalent (se) of less than -5 diopters (d) who had undergone laser in situ keratomileusis (lasik) more than 2 years before were operated on. at the end of the prk procedure, mmc was applied...

Purpose. To determine if spectacle corrected and uncorrected astigmats show reduced performance on visual motor and perceptual tasks. Methods. Third through 8th grade students were assigned to the low refractive error control group (astigmatism < 1.00 D, myopia < 0.75 D, hyperopia < 2.50 D, and anisometropia < 1.50 D) or bilateral astigmatism group (right and left eye ≥ 1.00 D) based on cyclopl...

AIMS To survey level of blindness and low vision in Lebanon. METHODS A population survey was undertaken in 10,148 individuals to measure the prevalence and identify the causes of blindness in Lebanon. RESULTS The prevalence of blindness was 0.6% and that of low vision 3.9%. The major causes of blindness were cataract (41.3%) and uncorrected large refractive error (12.6%). CONCLUSION Most ...
