Intraosseous movement of an unerupted tooth across the midline of the jaw is known as dental transmigration. This infrequent event is mostly found in the mandibular canines. There are four new cases of mandibular canine transmigration presented here. The literature on this anomalous phenomenon is also reviewed.
The SSRO with rigid fixation (RF) can be best applied for correction of mandibular prognathism after the age of 12 years (after eruption of the mandibular second molars) in symmetric and mild to moderate asymmetric cases. Contraindications for the SSRO include 1) presence of unerupted mandibular second molars: 2) a severely narrow anteroposterior or mediolateral dimension of the ramus with no m...
Pyknodysostosis is an autosomal-recessive disorder of osteoclast dysfunction causing osteosclerosis, with associated maxillofacial anomalies. Multidetector CT with multiplanar and 3D reconstruction illustrated the pathologic findings in this case. Abnormalities included multiple retained deciduous teeth, unerupted teeth with associated follicles, an irregularly expanded alveolus and body of the...
Abstract It is widely accepted that the prevalence of metal hypersensitivity increasing. Furthermore, incidence unerupted mandibular second molars 2.3%, which 0.2% judged to be a result impaction. While it becoming more common treat impacted in daily clinical practice, hypersensitive patients presenting with are less frequently encountered. There have been no previous reports who required molar...
Dentigerous cysts develop from unerupted and impacted permanent teeth. Very rarely, supernumerary teeth are associated with dentigerous cysts and constitute about 5-6% of all dentigerous cysts. Although these cysts are not common in the first decade of life, regular thorough inspection of radiographs is of importance, as indicated by this case report. This case shows how an impacted supernumera...
A dentigerous cyst or follicular cyst is an odontogenic cyst thought to be of developmental origin associated with the crown of an unerupted tooth. Such cyst remain initially asymptomatic unless infected. The purpose of this case report is to describe the diagnosis and management of dentigerous cyst in a 7.5 year-old boy. The chosen treatment was marsupialization which responded well with erupt...
Ameloblastic fibro-odontoma is a relatively rare, benign odontogenic tumor that usually occurs in children and adolescents with unerupted teeth. This article reports an ameloblastic fibro-odontoma in the anterior mandible as a "bump on her gum" in a 7-month-old girl. This is the first case under 9 months old reported to date. Radiographic and histologic findings as well as the treatment are dis...
Dentigerous cysts form from accumulation of fluid between reduced enamel epithelium and the crown of an unerupted tooth. They cause several difficulties such as swelling, non-eruption of the involved teeth, and displacement of adjacent teeth, and thus require early detection and prompt treatment. Treatment ranges from marsupialisation to enucleation. Enucleation is rarely used in children compa...
This study evaluated the superficial microhardness of enamel in teeth at different posteruptive ages (before eruption in the oral cavity, 2-3 years after eruption, 4-10 years after eruption and more than 10 years after eruption). The study sample was composed of 134 specimens of human enamel. One fragment of each tooth was obtained from the flattest central portion of the crown to produce speci...
OBJECTIVES The aim of the study was to investigate the caries-preventive effect of high-filled glass ionomer sealant in newly erupted first molars in a high-risk group. This investigation is part of a larger study amongst eight hundred and thirty-five 6-7-year-old Syrian children. METHODS Children that had 1, 2 or 3 just erupted or erupting and at least one unerupted first molar (control) wer...
