AIM To assess clinical utility of NMP22 Bladder Check Test and to compare it with voided urine cytology and cystoscopy in early detection of Bladder Cancer. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 115 patients of follow up cases of bladder cancer were enrolled in this study. Urine samples were assayed for the presence of NMP22 using NMP22 Bladder Check Test and cytology was performed by a cytopatholo...
PURPOSE Patients with superficial bladder cancer require long-term surveillance for recurrence. We compared the cost of cystoscopy and cytology (standard care) to that of urinary markers (modified care) for patients with a history of superficial bladder cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS We constructed a decision analysis model that compared the 2 strategies for a hypothetical followup interval of...
PTTM (Pulmonary tumor thrombotic microangiopathy) is very difficult to diagnose before death. We report a case of urothelial carcinoma of the urinary bladder associated with PTTM in which an antemortem diagnosis by PMC (pulmonary microvascular cytology). PMC may represent the only chance for diagnosis and achievement of remission in PTTM.
We report a case of primary malignant melanoma of the male urethra, increasing the total number of reported cases to 31. The experience with our case suggests that urinary cytology is a diagnostic method for malignant melanoma and essential in the preoperative diagnosis of this disease.
Primary malignant melanoma Urethra, male Urinary cytology Abstract We report a case of primary malignant melanoma of the male urethra, increasing the total number of reported cases to 31. The experience with our case suggests that urinary cytology is a diagnostic method for malignant melanoma and essential in the preoperative diagnosis of this disease. AIM To compare the results of bladder tumor associated antigen (BTA TRAK), nuclear matrix protein 22 (NMP 22) and voided urine cytology (VUC) in detecting bladder cancer. METHODS A total of 135 elderly male and 50 healthy volunteers enrolled in this study were classified into three groups: (i) 93 patients with bladder cancer; (ii) 42 patients with urinary benign conditions; and (iii) 50 healt...
OBJECTIVES To assess the clinical utility of a fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assay as a non-invasive method for diagnosing and monitoring urothelial carcinoma (UC) in the upper urinary tract (UUT). METHODS Urine specimens from 30 consecutive patients with UUT UC and 19 healthy controls were analyzed by means of cytology and FISH. For FISH analysis, labelled probes to chromosomes 3...
CONTEXT A combination of methods is used for diagnosis of bladder cancer because no single procedure detects all malignancies. Urine tests are frequently part of an evaluation, but have either been nonspecific for cancer or required specialized analysis at a laboratory. OBJECTIVE To investigate whether a point-of-care proteomic test that measures the nuclear matrix protein NMP22 in voided uri...
BACKGROUND UroScreen is a prospective study for early diagnosis of bladder cancer (BC) in chemical workers formerly exposed to aromatic amines, aimed to assess the performance of molecular tumor markers in comparison with urinary cytology. Here we evaluate the cancer-predictive values and potential effect modifiers of fluorescence-in-situ-hybridization (FISH). SUBJECTS AND METHODS A FISH test...
We evaluated the performance of a multiprobe FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization) assay for noninvasive detection of superficial urothelial carcinoma (UC) in the bladder, in comparison to urinary cytology. Voided urine samples from 74 patients with superficial UC were analyzed by both techniques. Urine samples from 19 patients with muscle-invasive tumors and from 19 healthy control subject...
