The majority of deaths from acute myocardial infarction (AMI) occur prior to the arrival of medical aid and appear to be due to ventricular fibrillation (VF). Since the premature ventricular contraction and bradyeardia are believed to predispose to VF, it has been suggested that administration of atropine or lidocaine during the prehospital phase of AMI may effectively reduce mortality in AMI. ...

The aim of the study was to identify dominant types rhythm disturbances in pregnant women, discuss features pathogenesis ventricular arrhythmias during pregnancy, relevance pre-gravidar diagnosis, expediency using antiarrhythmic drugs gestation. Basics. Proarrhythmic mechanisms pregnancy are associated with cardiovascular, vegetative and hormonal changes. risk factor for complications is a prev...

A severe case of flecainide-induced incessant ventricular arrhythmias is presented. These arrhythmias were resistant to various intravenous antiarrhythmic drugs and to cardiac pacing. Intravenous amiodarone administered over a short period and in a high dose strikingly abolished all ventricular arrhythmias.

BACKGROUND The relation between left ventricular (LV) remodeling and ventricular arrhythmias after myocardial infarction is poorly documented. We investigated the relations between LV size, hypertrophy, and function and ventricular arrhythmias in 263 patients from the Survival and Ventricular Enlargement (SAVE) study, using quantitative 2D echocardiography and ambulatory ECG monitoring after my...

Intravenous magnesium has been used to prevent and treat many different types of cardiac arrhythmia. It has diverse electrophysiological actions on the conduction system of the heart; including prolonging sinus node recovery time, and reducing automaticity, atrioventricular nodal conduction, antegrade and retrograde conduction over an accessory pathway, and His-ventricular conduction. Intraveno...

A major disadvantage of conventional amiodarone therapy is the long delay between initiation of therapy and arrhythmia suppression. In this study, the hypothesis was tested that complex ventricular arrhythmias would be suppressed rapidly by an intravenous amiodarone infusion designed to achieve and maintain a therapeutic serum concentration. Eleven patients were studied. Each underwent a single...

Certain arrhythmias are observed in healthy relatively young individuals without evidence of structural heart disease, and mostly asymptomatic that fall under the generic term of “idiopathic” to describe various forms of ventricular arrhythmias from isolated premature beats (VPBSs) to sustained tachycardia. So far, the term idiopathic arrhythmias has only be applied to ventricular arrhythmias, ...

propafenone hci (p), is a relatively new class ic antiarrhythmic agent. it has been reported to be superior to conventional antiarrhythmics in the control of supraventricular, ventricular and wpw associated tachyarrhythmias. it has been also shown to be well tolerated. in our study protocol, which extends over 2~ years period , we used (p) in 87 patients for management of various types of cardi...

OBJECTIVE Chagas disease has become a global problem due to changing migration patterns. An electrophysiological study is generally indicated for assessing sinus node function, conduction through the atrioventricular node and His-Purkinje system, in addition to evaluating the mechanisms of arrhythmia. The aim of this study was to describe the characteristics of electrophysiological study findin...

OBJECTIVES This study sought to compare and contrast the clinical and electrophysiological characteristics of outflow tract arrhythmias. BACKGROUND Idiopathic ventricular outflow tract arrhythmias manifest clinically in 3 forms: 1) paroxysmal sustained monomorphic ventricular tachycardia (SMVT), 2) repetitive nonsustained ventricular tachycardia (NSVT), or 3) premature ventricular contraction...
