Human Vibrio infections associated with consumption of raw shellfish greatly impact the seafood industry. Vibrio cholerae-related disease is occasionally attributed to seafood, but V. vulnificus and V. parahaemolyticus are the primary targets of postharvest processing (PHP) efforts in the United States, as they pose the greatest threat to the industry. Most successful PHP treatments for Vibrio ...

The number of inflammatory gastroenteritis outbreaks due to the food-borne pathogen Vibrio parahaemolyticus is rising sharply worldwide and in the United States in particular. Here we report the complete, annotated genome sequence of the prepandemic V. parahaemolyticus strain BB22OP and make some initial comparisons to the complete genome sequence for pandemic strain RIMD2210633.

Presented here is the first report describing the detection of potentially diarrheal Vibrio parahaemolyticus strains isolated from cultured bivalves on the Mediterranean coast, providing data on the presence of both tdh- and trh-positive isolates. Potentially diarrheal V. parahaemolyticus strains were isolated from four species of bivalves collected from both bays of the Ebro delta, Spain.

Vibrio parahaemolyticus is an important foodborne pathogen responsible for gastroenteritis outbreaks globally. It has also been identified as an important pathogen in aquatic organisms. Here, we report a draft genome sequence of V. parahaemolyticus, strain VH3, isolated from farmed juvenile greater amberjack, Seriola dumerili, in Greece.

The Vibrio genus contains a large number of closely related bacterial species differing, in some cases, less than 1% in 16S rRNA gene sequence. The present study evaluated the usefulness of toxR gene for phylogenetic and evolution analysis on Vibrio isolates of environmental or clinical origin belonging to the two closely related species V. parahaemolyticus and V. alginolyticus. The phylogeneti...

The population of Vibrios in diseased Penaeus monodon collected from culture ponds situated at Uran, Maharashtra (west coast of India) was studied. All animals collected were associated with more than one Vibrio species. Bacterial identification based on morphological and biochemical characteristics showed that four groups of Vibrios were present in shrimp hepatopancreas namely Vibrio parahaemo...

Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a major pathogen that is mainly associated with seafood and is a global food safety issue. Our objective was to isolate and completely sequence a specific phage against this bacterium. Phage vB_VpaM_MAR is able to lyse 76% of the V. parahaemolyticus strains tested. MAR belongs to the Myoviridae family and has a genome comprised of double-stranded DNA with a size of 41...

Serological analysis of the O and K antigens was performed on 324 isolates of Vibrio parahaemolyticus obtained from three hydrobiologically dissimilar aquatic environments. Only 50.9% of the strains could be serotyped. The largest number of untypable strains and the lowest serological diversity were observed from the freshwater collection. Three serotypes, O2:K28, O5:K17, and O2:K3, dominated a...
