Inattention to current activity is ubiquitous in everyday situations. Mind wandering is an example of such a state, and its related brain areas have been examined in the literature. However, there is no clear evidence regarding neural rhythmic activities linked to mind wandering. Using a vigilance task with thought sampling and electroencephalography recording, the current study simultaneously ...
Mind wandering is a ubiquitous phenomenon in which attention shifts from task-related to task-unrelated thoughts. The last decade has witnessed an explosion of interest in mind wandering, but research has been stymied by a lack of objective measures, leading to a near-exclusive reliance on self-reports. We addressed this issue by developing an eye-gaze-based, machine-learned model of mind wande...
Migratory behavior, routes and zones used during the non-breeding season are assumed to have been selected to maximize fitness, and can lead to genetic differentiation. Yet, here we show that migration strategies differ markedly between and within two genetically similar populations of wandering albatross Diomedea exulans from the Crozet and Kerguelen archipelagos in the Indian Ocean. Wandering...
We introduce nonwandering operators in infinite-dimensional separable Banach space. They are new linear chaotic operators and are relative to hypercylic operators, but different from them. Firstly, we show some examples for nonwandering operators in some typical infinite-dimensional Banach spaces, including Banach sequence space and physical background space. Then we present some properties of ...
We modify a construction of Kisaka and Shishikura to show that there exists an entire function f which has both a simply connected and a multiply connected wandering domain. Moreover, these domains are contained in the set A(f) consisting of the points where the iterates of f tend to infinity fast. The results answer questions by Rippon and Stallard.
In this paper, we study the problem of wandering continua for a Lattes map. For such a map, we prove that it admits a wandering continuum if and only if it is a flexible Lattes map.
We investigate in which cases the boundary of a multiply connected wandering domain of an entire function is uniformly perfect. We give a general criterion implying that it is not uniformly perfect. This criterion applies in particular to examples of multiply connected wandering domains given by Baker. We also provide examples of infinitely connected wandering domains whose boundary is uniforml...
Subjective inner experiences, such as mind-wandering, represent the fundaments of human cognition. Although the precise function of mind-wandering is still debated, it is increasingly acknowledged to have influence across cognition on processes such as future planning, creative thinking, and problem-solving and even on depressive rumination and other mental health disorders. Recently, there has...
Wandering is a common behavior among people with dementia (PwD). It is also one of the main concerns of caregivers since it can cause the person to get lost and injured. The frequency and manner in which a person wanders is highly influenced by the person’s background and contextual factors specific to the situation. In this paper we investigate some of the properties of wandering behaviours, p...
