Various organic and aqueous extracts of aerial part of Boenninghausenia albiflora (Rutaceae) obtained by infusion and maceration were screened for their antimicrobial activity against eight animal and plant pathogenic bacteria (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Erwinia chrysanthemi, Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, Xanthomonas phaseoli, Agrobacterium tumefaciens and Xanthomonas campe...

A methionine sulfoxide reductase gene (msrA) from Xanthomonas campestris pv. phaseoli has unique expression patterns and physiological function. msrA expression is growth dependent and is highly induced by exposure to oxidants and N-ethylmaleimide in an OxyR- and OhrR-independent manner. An msrA mutant showed increased sensitivity to oxidants but only during stationary phase.

The genome of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia encodes a cell-cell signaling system that is highly related to the diffusible signal factor (DSF)-dependent system of the phytopathogen Xanthomonas campestris. Here we show that in S. maltophilia, DSF signaling controls factors contributing to the virulence and antibiotic resistance of this important nosocomial pathogen.

We describe useful vectors to select double-crossover events directly in site-directed marker exchange mutagenesis in gram-negative bacteria. These vectors contain the gusA marker gene, providing colorimetric screens to identify bacteria harboring those sequences. The applicability of these vectors was shown by mapping the 3* end of the Xanthomonas campestris gum operon, involved in biosynthesi...

Lema, M., Soengas, P., Velasco, P., Francisco, M., and Cartea, M. E. 2011. Identification of sources of resistance to Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris in Brassica napus crops. Plant Dis. 95:292-297. Black rot, caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris, is one of the most important diseases affecting Brassica crops worldwide. Nine races have been differentiated in X. campestris pv. ca...

Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae, which causes rice bacterial blight, is one of the most destructive pathogenic bacteria. Biological control against plant pathogens has recently received increasing interest. 1-Deoxy-N-acetylglucosamine (1-DGlcNAc) was extracted from the supernatant of Virgibacillus dokdonensis MCCC 1A00493 fermentation through antibacterial bioassay-guided isolation. Its structure...

BACKGROUND To isolate plant-derived compounds with antimicrobial activity from the leaves of Mikania micrantha, to determine the compounds configuration, and to evaluate their antimicrobial activity against eight plant pathogenic fungi (Exserohilum turcicum, Colletotrichum lagenarium, Pseudoperonispora cubensis, Botrytis cirerea, Rhizoctonia solani, Phytophthora parasitica, Fusarium solani, and...

We have isolated and characterized a lytic double-stranded DNA Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris bacteriophage (XTP1) capable of mediating generalized transduction. The phage transduces chromosomal markers at frequencies of 10(-5) to 10(-6) transductants per PFU. We demonstrated its genetic utility by the isolation and cotransduction of linked transposon insertions to a nonselectable locus,...
