Poviliana dayubiikii Delorme sp. nov. and Poviliana montrouzieri Delorme sp. nov. are described from New Caledonia. They are respectively found in mid altitude rain forest on Mont Panié (570 m) and Col des Roussettes (300 m). Male calling songs of the two new species are described from the field recordings. A key to the species of Poviliana is also provided.

BACKGROUND Single-dose nevirapine (NVP) is the simplest antiretroviral regimen for the prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission (PMTCT) in resource-limited settings. We evaluated NVP coverage among HIV-infected delivering women in Côte d'Ivoire. METHODS A cross-sectional survey of mother-infant pairs was conducted between November 2007 and September 2008 in 10 randomly selected faciliti...

The tetrazolium dye, 3-(4,5-dimethylthia/ol-2-yl)-2,5-diphi-iiyltclrazolium bromide (MTT), is reduced by live but not dead cells, and this reaction is used as the end point in a rapid drug-screening assay. It can also be used for accurate determinations of drug sensitivity but only if a quantitative relationship is established between cell number and M l'I forma/an production. We have shown tha...

We report data for three experiments that assess the effect on the luminosity function of chromatic adaptation arising from the measurement stimuli. First, we report spectral-sensitivity functions (wavelength range, 510-640 nm) measured by heterochromatic flicker photometry for a luminance range of 25-5000 Td. The data were fitted to a linear combination of cone fundamentals. The data narrowed ...

A sodiothermic reduction method has been developed for the preparation of porous silicon using aluminosilicate zeolite NaY as a precursor. The porous silicon with a specific surface area of approximately 570 m(2) g(-1) shows distinct capacitive behavior when used as an electrode material for supercapacitors.

Bazin et al. (Reports, 28 April, 2006, p. 570) found no relationship between mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) diversity and population size when comparing across large groups of animals. We show empirically that species with smaller populations, as represented by eutherian mammals, exhibit a positive correlation between mtDNA and allozyme variation, suggesting that mtDNA diversity may correlate with p...
