[Ru(p-cymene)Cl2]2-catalyzed 1,4-addition reactions between arylboronic acids and butyl acrylate and acrylamide in the presence of phenols were investigated, good to excellent yields were obtained. The addition of phenols remarkably promoted the protonolysis and inhibited the β-H elimination of the 1,4-addition intermediates, and also efficiently suppressed the protonolysis of arylboronic acids.
The oxidation of phenols by HFeO4(-) proceeds via a hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) mechanism, as evidenced by a large deuterium isotope effect and a linear correlation between the log(rate constant) and bond dissociation free energy (BDFE) of phenols. The Marcus cross relation has been applied to predict the rate constant of HAT from hydroquinone to HFeO4(-).
A combination of ruthenium and photoredox catalysis allowed the ortho olefination of phenols. Using visible light, the direct C-H functionalization of o-(2-pyridyl)phenols occurred, and diverse phenol ethers were obtained in good yields. The regeneration of the ruthenium catalyst was accomplished by a photoredox-catalyzed oxidative process.
Based on 6-hydroxyindole BODIPY with a Schiff-base structure, NIR fluorescence with impressively high selectivity is triggered by deprotonation of the phenol group upon binding with Zn(2+) due to the chelation-enhanced fluorescence effect, thus realizing a promising application in bioimaging of Zn(2+).
introduction: increasing of food-related diseases has led to the perception of diet importance. plant-derived products (especially tea) as important sources of antioxidant and antimicrobial compounds play a major role in reducing food pathogens. in this study, total phenolic content, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of four tea extracts including green tea, white, black and red teas were ...
2-Cyanobenzofurans and 2-cyanobenzothiophenes were prepared through an efficient one-pot Ullmann-reaction/cyanation reaction. In the presence of CuI/Na(2)CO(3)-Pd(OAc)(2)/PPh(3) in DMF, the reaction of 2-(gem-dibromovinyl)phenols and 2-(gem-dibromovinyl)thiophenols with K(4)Fe(CN)(6), as non-toxic and user-friendly cyanating reagent, proceeded smoothly to generate the corresponding 2-cyanobenzo...
Ruthenium(III) chloride-catalyzed acylation of a variety of alcohols, phenols, and thiols was achieved in high yields under mild conditions (room temperature) in the ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([bmim][PF(6)]). The ionic liquid and ruthenium catalyst can be recycled at least 10 times. Our system not only solves the basic problem of ruthenium catalyst reuse, but ...
Caged compounds can be used to regulate the spatial and temporal dynamics of signaling molecules in live cells. Photochemical properties of coumarin-4-ylmethoxy carbonates (1a-d) are investigated to construct caged compounds of hydroxy-containing molecules. All the compounds possess desired properties as phototriggers for alcohols and phenols. The 6-bromo-7-hydroxycoumarin-4-ylmethoxycarbonyl (...
The conversion of aryl halides to phenols under mild reaction conditions is a longstanding and formidable challenge in organic chemistry. Herein, we report the rational design of a broadly applicable Pd-catalyzed method to prepare phenols with benzaldehyde oxime as a hydroxide surrogate. These reactions occur under mildly basic conditions and enable the late-stage hydroxylation of several funct...
