Aeromonas spp. are Gram-negative rods ubiquitous in aquatic environments; however, some species are able to cause a variety of infections in humans. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of Aeromonas caviae 8LM isolated from stool culture from a child with diarrhea in southern Brazil.
Here the data on evolutionary relationships of persistent bacteria from water tanks and their close relatives are shown. Curated sequences of the hypervariable region of ribosomal ribonucleic acid (rRNA) obtained from a strain of Aeromonas hydrophila and two strains of Serratia proteamaculans after searches in the GenBank® database were analyzed. The analysis which included 104 other bacteria s...
Aeromonas hydrophila AL09-71 was isolated from diseased channel catfish in west Alabama during a 2009 disease outbreak. The full genome of A. hydrophila AL09-71 is 5,023,861 bp. The availability of this genome will allow comparative genomics to identify genes involved in pathogenesis or immunogens for the purpose of vaccine development.
We present here the first genome sequence of the Aeromonas diversa type strain (CECT 4254(T)). This strain was isolated from the leg wound of a patient in New Orleans (Louisiana) and was originally described as enteric group 501 and distinguished from A. schubertii by DNA-DNA hybridization and phenotypical characterization.
Bacterial peritonitis is a frequent complication in cirrhotic patients. Amongst the aetiological germs, Aeromonas is very infrequent. We present the clinical case of a cirrhotic patient with peritonitis and bacteraemia due to Aeromonas hydrophila. This micro-organism is a Gram-negative bacillus of the Vibrionaceae family. It very frequently produces gastroenteritis in the human being. Exception...
motile members of the genus Aeromonas, are among the most common and troublesome diseases of fish raised in ponds and recirculating systems. The widespread distribution of these bacteria in the aquatic environment and the stress induced by intensive culture practices predisposes fish to infections. Motile aeromonad infections have been recognized for many years and have been referred to by vari...
Aeromonas hydrophila strains isolated from the same geographical region (southern Italy) but from different sources (sea sediments and human diarrhea cases) were characterized for the production of potential virulence determinants, such as production of cytotoxins, cytotonic toxins, hemolysin, and dermonecrotic factors and their capacity to adhere to human intestinal 407 cells in vitro. The res...
A total of 103 isolates of Aeromonas spp. were obtained over a 3-year period from a natural mineral water and from surface streams located within the boundaries of the watershed of the natural mineral water wells and were typed by macrorestriction analysis of genomic DNA with XbaI and by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. All Aeromonas caviae isolates from the natural mineral water belonged to t...
Aeromonas are widely distributed in the aquatic environment, and are considered to be emerging organisms that can produce a series of virulence factors. The present study was carried out in a sanitary sewage stabilization pond treatment system, located in Lins, State of São Paulo, Brazil. Most probable number was applied for estimation of the genus Aeromonas. Colony isolation was carried out on...
Infections by Aeromonas spp. are a rare cause of systemic infection in normal and immunocompromised hosts. We report the cases of two patients with acute non-lymphoblastic leukemia who developed septic shock by Aeromonas species with unusual soft-tissue complications. One patient who was undergoing consolidation chemotherapy developed septic shock by Aeromonas hydrophila with rhabdomyolysis and...
