The application of microfluidic devices in diagnostic systems is well-established in contemporary research. Large specific surface area of microspheres, on the other hand, has secured an important position for their use in bioanalytical assays. Herein, we report a combination of microspheres and microfluidic disk in a unique hybrid platform for highly sensitive and selective detection of dengue...

This paper reports a method for the automatic generation of hanging drops (HDs) for sustained three-dimensional (3D) cell culture. HDs emerge automatically through openings at the bottom of a microfluidic channel, which provides a means of and control over the mass transport into and out of the HD. We demonstrated the automatic formation of an array of HDs of various sizes using a microfluidic ...

The direct quantification of weak intermolecular binding interactions is very important for many applications in biology and medicine. Techniques that can be used to investigate such interactions under a controlled environment, while varying different parameters such as loading rate, pulling direction, rupture event measurements, and the use of different functionalized probes, are still lacking...

In order to understand how interstitial fluid pressure and flow affect cell behavior, many studies use microfluidic approaches to apply externally controlled pressures to the boundary of a cell-containing gel. It is generally assumed that the resulting interstitial pressure distribution quickly reaches a steady-state, but this assumption has not been rigorously tested. Here, we demonstrate expe...

in the present research, the effects of delamination size and location on vibration characteristics of laminated composite beams are investigated both analytically and numerically. in the analytical method, the delaminated beam is modeled as four interconnected euler–bernoulli beams and the constrained and free mode models are both simulated. the differential stretching and the bending-extensio...

A variety of analytical techniques have been developed and employed to characterize the surfaces, subsurfaces and interfaces of surface engineering systems. They provide important information for quality control, process optimization and further development. Since the mid 1980's, glow discharge spectrometry (GDS) has emerged as an important and versatile technique for rapid depth profiling anal...

The study of complicated flows continuously calls for new nonintrusive flow diagnostics. A novel flow visualization technique based on photodissociation spectroscopy (PDS) is described, demonstrated, and assessed in this paper. This technique is centered around the creative use of photodissociation (PD). A PD precursor is seeded in the flow of interest, either passive or reactive. A laser pulse...

In the presented work an analytical method for the quantitative determination of ethyl alcohol in body fluids with the use of the GC technique was described. A statistical evaluation of selected analytical factors of this method was presented. The described analytical method proved to be useful both in laboratory diagnosis of acute intoxication and for evidential purposes.
