cross-wafer standard deviation of Jc was typically ~ 5% for anodized wafers but was ≥15% for unanodized wafers (Figure 6). A low variation in Jc results in a higher yield of device chips per wafer with the desired current density. As a result of the improved cross-wafer distribution, the cross-chip uniformity is greatly improved as well; typically < 1% for anodized chips. Low cross-chip Jc vari...

There is limited dental literature evaluating the retentive capabilities of luting agents when used between metal components, such as cast metal restorations cemented onto machined metal implant abutments. This study compared the retentive strengths of 5 different classes of luting agents used to cement cast noble metal alloy crowns to 8-degree machined titanium cementable implant abutments fro...

This thesis aims at the synthesis of oriented nanochannel systems for the synthesis of metallic or semiconducting nanowires. Three different synthesis strategies have been developed. First, horizontal macroto mesoporous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) structures with individually addressable channel systems were fabricated in collaboration with the group of Dr. Anna Fontcuberta at TU München. For t...

6063 aluminum anodized extrusions may exhibit a common surface defect known as streaking, characterized by the formation of narrow bands with a surface gloss different from the surrounding material. The origin of this banding lies in the differential surface topography produced after etching during the anodizing stage, shown to be connected to certain microstructural characteristics. The presen...

A novel ultra-smoothing process for aluminum surfaces was developed using porous alumina formation and subsequent oxide dissolution. submicron-scale periodic dimpled surface with an arithmetic mean roughness of 31.5 nm prepared by anodizing in etidronic acid solution. This specimen then anodized a sodium metaborate (NaBO 2 ) solution to form unique film extremely flat barrier layer, which diffe...

Anodic Aluminium Oxide (AAO) membranes were fabricated using a modified 2 step anodization process. The effect of varying anodization voltage, time and temperature of electrolyte on the morphology of the pores was studied. AFM measurements showed that the anodized samples contain ordered pores of 32 nm in diameter and were 40nm apart.

Corrosion is the degradation or deterioration of metal components due to a reaction with the environment. Chromate conversion coating is applied to passivate metallic surface to slow down (and prevent to some extent) corrosion process. Chromate conversion process uses chromium compounds including hexavalent chromium, which is toxic, carcinogenic and hazardous to human health and environment. He...

In this study, titanium oxide nanotubes anodized on threedifferent surface morphologies of titanium foils, were investigated. AFM imagesis used to show different surface roughness of these foils. Nanotubes wereanodized on titanium foils with 1) no polishing process (A sample), 2)electropolishing process (B sample) and 3) electropolishing process in ethanolicelectrolyte (C sample). To study the ...
