Providing context-aware Web services is an adaptive process of delivering contextually matched Web services to meet service requesters’ needs. We define the term ‘‘context’’ from two perspectives: one from service requesters; and the other from Web services. From the former perspective, context is defined as the surrounding environment affecting requesters’ services discovery and access, such a...
Networks of organizations improve the competitiveness of its member companies. Computer applications can make the competencies of organizations more visible to encourage companies to find matching costumers, suppliers, or cooperation partners. Business Finder (BF) is a tool for improving mutual awareness among small and medium enterprises (SME) in regional networks. BF is based on text matching...
Several studies have reported on interaction challenges users face when confronted with proactive contextaware technologies that take actions on their behalf. To address these challenges, techniques have been proposed to improve intelligibility (understanding) of and control over context-aware systems for end-users. Proactive context-aware systems have not only been featured in several smart ho...
Dynamic context aware systems need highly flexible privacy protection mechanisms. We describe an extension to an existing RBAC-based mechanism that utilises a dynamic measure of invasiveness to determine whether contextual information should be released.
In this paper we examine the notion of plaintext awareness as it applies to hybrid encryption schemes. We apply this theory to the Cramer-Shoup hybrid scheme acting on fixed length messages and deduce that the Cramer-Shoup scheme is plaintext-aware in the standard model. This answers a previously open conjecture of Bellare and Palacio on the existence of fully plaintext-aware encryption schemes.
Ubiquitous networking empowered by Beyond 3G networking makes it possible for mobile users to access networked software services across heterogeneous infrastructures by resource-constrained devices. Heterogeneity and device limitedness creates serious problems for the development and deployment of mobile services that are able to run properly on the execution context and are able to ensures tha...
Context-aware systems typically use data sensed from the environment to drive adaptive behaviour. Sensed data is inherently imprecise and uncertain; in addition, new uncertainties are introduced when sensed data is fused with other data to infer context at the more abstract level of situations. We present an uncertainty model which aggregates context uncertainty and provides mechanisms to captu...
This position paper proposes argumentation structures for automated reasoning in context-aware systems, for design of context-aware behaviour, for generating explanations of system actions to users, and for more expressive rules for userprogramming of context-aware systems.
Mobile learning is cognitively demanding and frequently the ubiquitous nature of mobile computing means that mobile devices are used in cognitively demanding environments. This paper examines the use of mobile devices from a Learning, Usability and Cognitive Load Theory perspective. It suggests scenarios where these fields interact and presents an experiment which determined that several source...
Location-aware systems provide customised services or applications according to users’ locations. While much research has been carried out in developing models to represent location information and spatial relationships, it is usually limited to modelling simple environments (cf. [13,19,3]). This paper proposes a unified space model for more complex environments (e.g., city plan or forest). Thi...
