Although pattern languages have already been proposed for security modelling, such languages mostly employ concepts and notations related to object-oriented systems, and have mainly neglected the agent-oriented paradigm. In this position paper we argue about the need to define a security pattern language applicable to agent-based systems that employs concepts based in the agent-oriented paradig...

Knowledge-Management (KM)-systems integrate multiple technologies with the purpose of supporting users who have "knowledgerelated" problems. Case-Based Reasoning (CBR)-technology is well known for improving problem solutions. Combining both concepts the project "TO_KNOW" has the goal to design a CBR-component that is adaptable to typical KM-Systems. The basic idea is to take into account user-q...

Creative designers often see solutions to pending design problems in the everyday objects surrounding them. This can often lead to innovation and insight, sometimes revealing new functions and purposes for common design pieces in the process. We are interested in modeling serendipitous recognition of solutions to pending problems in the context of creative mechanical design. This paper characte...

The paper focuses on the role of features for the implementation of the transfer-based machine translation systems. The semantic content of syntactic structures is established via the contrastive study of the English and Russian language systems and parallel texts analysis. The notion of cognitive transfer is employed which means that a language unit or structure can be singled out for transfer...

In the present paper we argue that the effectiveness of interventions/design solutions supporting emergency evacuation of crowds in socio-technical systems, depends on the appropriateness of the models used for the crowd behaviour. After reviewing basic approaches already used to model escaping crowds, the knowledge about crowd behaviour provided by modern social psychology is briefly presented...

Prompt and accurate location of the faults in a largescale transmission system is critical when system reliability is considered and usually is the first step in the system restoration. The accuracy of fault location estimation essentially depends on the information available. While there have been some successful algorithms for fault location utilizing two-end or threeend data, the satisfactor...

There is extensive health and public health literature on the 'evidence-policy gap', exploring the frustrating experiences of scientists trying to secure a response to the problems and solutions they raise and identifying the need for better evidence to reduce policymaker uncertainty. We offer a new perspective by using policy theory to propose research with greater impact, identifying the need...

This paper presents an approach to mobile robot path planning using case-based reasoning together with map-based path planning. The map-based path planner is used to seed the case-base with innovative solutions. The casebase stores the paths and the information about their traversability. While planning the route those paths are preferred that according to the former experience are least risky.

We continue to develop a complementary approach to manual Red Teaming we call AutoRedTeaming, which uses a combination of evolutionary algorithms and agent-based simulations to generate novel solutions that ‘break Blue’. Information obtained during this automated process can then be used to either enhance or assist the manual effort. During the past year we have conducted the first test of the ...

In the past twenty years, evidence based medicine (EBM) has become a dominant paradigm of the contemporary medical practice. Since the emergence of the significant article by Geddes and Harrison in 1997, this doctrine has become part of psychiatry too. According to the rules of EBM, the most valuable clinical data comes from randomized-controlled trials (RCT). Nevertheless there are numerous re...
