Key words : Methyl bromide—EEG—Wakefulness—Non-REM sleep—REM sleep— Bromine ions—Methanol Methyl bromide has been widely used as a fumigant in plant quarantine and agriculture, because of its strong insecticidal effect.1) However, methyl bromide is known to impair the function of the central nervous system (CNS) , when workers are exposed to it through inhalation and dermal contact. Disorders o...

forty-five patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were studied to compare the acute effects of ipratropium bromide (60 µg), salbutamol (300 µg) and placebo (3 puffs) on the forced expiratory volume in 1 sec (fev 1) and forced vital capacity (pvc). ipratropium bromide produced a significantly greater improvement than salbutamol in both fev1 and fvc at 15,60 and 180 minutes after dru...

N-isopropyltheobromine and N-sec-butyltheobromine were synthesized via nucleophilic substitution reaction by reacting theobromine and two kind of alkyl bromide derivatives, i.e. isopropyl bromide and sec-butyl bromide using N, Ndimethylformamide (DMF) as a solvent. Yields (N-isopropyltheobromine = 7.70%; N-sec-butyltheobromine = 5.89%) were slightly less than the previous synthesis which used e...

DESCRIPTION The active ingredient in ATROVENT (ipratropium bromide) Inhalation Aerosol is ipratropium bromide. It is an anticholinergic bronchodilator chemically described as 8azoniabicyclo[3.2.1]-octane, 3-(3-hydroxy-1-oxo-2-phenylpropoxy)-8-methyl-8-(1methylethyl)-, bromide, monohydrate (endo,syn)-,(±): a synthetic quaternary ammonium compound chemically related to atropine. The structural fo...

A rapid and easy method for staining lipopolysaccharides with ethidium bromide is described. Lipopolysaccharides could be visualized by ethidium bromide with almost the same sensitivity as found with the silver-staining method in less than 30 min. The ethidium bromide-staining method was particularly suitable for staining lipopolysaccharides possessing acidic O-specific polysaccharides, which w...

Acute accidental methyl bromide poisoning was treated with haemodialysis. The treatment was successful in removing bromide from the blood but the patient persists with severe neuropsychiatric sequelae. To the best of our knowledge haemodialysis has not been used previously for the treatment of organic bromide poisoning.

The present work describes, the reaction between disodium salt of 1,3-dihydroxybenzene (in situ formation) and propargyl bromide was carried out in a solid-liquid biphasic phase transfer catalytic system at 50°C. Higher selectivity of the bis-derivative (1,3-bis(prop-2-ynyloxy)benzene) was obtained under solid-liquid PTC condion. The conversion of propargyl bromide of more than 99% was achieved...

In its earliest stages when treatment will produce the most favourable results, tuberculous meningitis may be difficult to diagnose clinically, since other infective non-bacterial conditions of the central nervous system may present a similar clinical picture at their onset. Since the bromide partition test and its use in the diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis were described (Taylor, Smith and...
