The Italian legislation on contaminated soils does not include the Ecological Risk Assessment (ERA) and this deficiency has important consequences for the sustainable management of agricultural soils. The present research compares the results of two ERA procedures applied to agriculture (i) one based on the "substance-based" approach and (ii) a second based on the "matrix-based" approach. In th...

BACKGROUND As a new authentication method developed years ago, vein recognition technology features the unique advantage of bioassay. OBJECTIVE This paper studies the specific procedure for the extraction of hand back vein characteristics. METHODS There are different positions used in the collecting process, so that a suitable intravenous regional orientation method is put forward, allowing...

Droplet microfluidics offers significant advantages for performing high-throughput screens and sensitive assays. Droplets allow sample volumes to be significantly reduced, leading to concomitant reductions in cost. Manipulation and measurement at kilohertz speeds enable up to 10(8) samples to be screened in one day. Compartmentalization in droplets increases assay sensitivity by increasing the ...

Preparing the books to read every day is enjoyable for many people. However, there are still many people who also don't like reading. This is a problem. But, when you can support others to start reading, it will be better. One of the books that can be recommended for new readers is the cytochemical bioassay of polypeptide hormones. This book is not kind of difficult book to read. It can be read...

Laboratory-generated animal bioassay data often serve as the basis for estimating potential human cancer risk. However, there is no single procedure that has been universally accepted as the method of choice for extrapolating experimentally observed results to the low exposure levels that are generally of public health concern. All of the models proposed to date suffer from various limitations....

In standard analyses of data well-modeled by a nonlinear mixed model, an aberrant observation, either within a cluster, or an entire cluster itself, can greatly distort parameter estimates and subsequent standard errors. Consequently, inferences about the parameters are misleading. This paper proposes an outlier robust method based on linearization to estimate fixed effects parameters and varia...

Cyanobium sp. NIES-981 is a marine cyanobacterium isolated from tidal flat sands in Okinawa, Japan. Here, we report the complete 3.0-Mbp genome sequence of NIES-981, which is composed of a single chromosome, and its annotation. This sequence information may provide a basis for developing an ecotoxicological bioassay using this strain.

The current study demonstrates, for the first time, the occurrence of olfactory individual recognition in a nonhuman primate species. The empirical demonstration of recognition systems requires 1) a set of cues produced by the sender (expression component), 2) the perception of these cues by the receiver (perception component), and 3) a functional response by the receiver (action component). On...

OBJECTIVE This study examined the influence of prenatal cocaine exposure on attention and response inhibition measured by continuous performance tests (CPTs) at ages 5 and 7 years. METHODS The baseline sample consisted of 253 cocaine-exposed and 223 non-cocaine-exposed children enrolled prospectively at birth and assessed comprehensively through age 7 years in the longitudinal Miami Prenatal ...
