In this work, the Blasius equation is studied. Homotopy perturbation method (HPM) and homotopy analysis method (HAM) are applied to obtain its solution. Comparison with variational iteration method (VIM) is made to highlight the significant features of employed methods and their capability of handling nonlinear problems. The outcome shows the success of (HPM) and (HAM) for solving nonlinear pro...

ABSTRACT The purpose of this work is to investigate the friction factor for slurries of particles with density close to that of water. The use of particles with density close to that of ice aims to get explanations of new generation of liquid-solid coolant in adiabatic conditions. The solid particles are 3mmdiameter polypropylene sphere, of density 869 kg/m. The test section consists of horizon...

Abstract This paper studies the generation of Tollmien–Schlichting waves by free-stream turbulence in transonic flow over a half-infinite flat plate with roughness element using an asymptotic approach. It is assumed that Reynolds number (denoted Re) large, and uniform so it can be modelled as vorticity waves. Close to plate, Blasius boundary layer forms at thickness $$O(\mathrm{{Re}}^{-{1}/{2}}...

In this paper, we have defined the free boundary formulation for two extended Blasius problems. These problems are of interest in layer theory and deduced from governing partial differential equations by using appropriate similarity variables. The computed results, so-called missing initial condition, favorably compared with recent results available literature.

Recent investigations of laminar flow control for swept-wing boundarylayer flows provide promising results with respect to crossflow-transition delay using a technique called pinpoint suction. Strong, localized suction through holes accurately positioned with respect to the crossflow-vortex position can directly weaken the growth of secondary instabilities that are responsible for the final lam...

A physically-based computational technique was investigated which is intended to estimate an initial guess for complex values of the wavenumber of a disturbance leading to the solution of the fourth-order Orr-Sommerfeld (O-S) equation. The complex wavenumbers, or eigenvalues, were associated with the stability characteristics of a semi-infinite shear flow represented by a hyperbolic-tangent fun...
