Entangled networks of carbon nanofibers are characterized both mechanically and electrically. Results for both tensile and compressive loadings of the entangled networks are presented for various densities. Mechanically, the nanofiber ensembles follow the micromechanical model originally proposed by van Wyk nearly 70 years ago. Interpretations are given on the mechanisms occurring during loadin...

Tissue engineering techniques using novel scaffolding materials offer potential alternatives for managing tendon disorders. An ideal tendon tissue engineered scaffold should mimic the three-dimensional (3D) structure of the natural extracellular matrix (ECM) of the native tendon. Here, we propose a novel electrospun nanoyarn network that is morphologically and structurally similar to the ECM of...

Co-polyimide nanofiber based on BPDA (3, 30 , 4, 40-Biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride)/PDA (p-Phenylene-diamine)/ODA (4, 40-Oxydianiline) (BPO) were produced by electrospinning followed by imidization from precursor polyamic acid (PAA) nanofiber. The aligned co-polyimide nanofiber mats possessed a modulus, strength and strain-at-break of respective 10 GPa, 1.04 GPa, and 13.5%. In comparison w...

Biomaterials play a pivotal role in regenerative medicine, which aims to regenerate and replace lost/degenerated tissues or organs. Natural bone is a hierarchical structure, comprised of various cells having specific functions that are regulated by sophisticated mechanisms. However, the regulation of the normal functions in damaged or injured cells is disrupted. In order to address this problem...

Nanofiber structures of some peptides and proteins as biological materials have been studied extensively, but their molecular mechanism of self-assembly and reassembly still remains unclear. We report here the reassembly of an ionic self-complementary peptide RADARADARADARADA (RADA16-I) that forms a well defined nanofiber scaffold. The 16-residue peptide forms stable beta-sheet structure and un...

BACKGROUND Potentially infected individuals ('source') are sometimes encouraged to use face masks to reduce exposure of their infectious aerosols to others ('receiver'). To improve compliance with Respiratory Source Control via face mask and therefore reduce receiver exposure, a mask should be comfortable and effective. We tested a novel face mask designed to improve breathability and filtratio...

although spinal cord injury (sci) is one of the most common injuries after a road accident, there is no definite treatment for it. in this regard, nanotechnology has focused to retrieve damaged tissue function by designing of a biomaterial as a mimicking extracellular matrix to reduce inflammation, scar and lactate dehydrogenase, to fill the cyst and improve the graft integration, cell prolifer...

Novel mesoporous poly(vinyl alcohol)/SiO(2) composite nanofiber membranes functionalized with mercapto groups with diameters of 300-500 nm have been fabricated by a sol-gel electrospinning process; they were highly effective at absorbing Cu(ii) ions from waste water. These nanofiber membranes could be regenerated through acidification.

A simple fabrication route for ion gel nanofibers in a triboelectric nanogenerator was demonstrated. Using an electrospinning technique, we could fabricate a large-area ion gel nanofiber mat. The triboelectric nanogenerator was demonstrated by employing an ion gel nanofiber and the device exhibited an output power of 0.37 mW and good stability under continuous operation.
