Recent research has provided evidence that interference with bacterial cell-to-cell signaling is a promising strategy for the development of novel antimicrobial agents. Here we report on the computer-aided design of novel compounds that specifically inhibit an N-acyl-homoserine lactone-dependent communication system that is widespread among members of the genus Burkholderia. This genus comprise...

biological control of soil borne plant pathogens with antagonistic microorganism has been more attracting interest. especially, burkholderia strains have been intensively investigated as biological agents. the objective of this study was finding an effective biologica control agent against the canola damping off caused by rhizoctonia solani. rhizoctonia damping-off is one of the most important ...

Burkholderia pseudomallei is the etiologic agent of the tropical disease melioidosis and is considered to be a potential biological weapon. Two B. pseudomallei-like species, Burkholderia oklahomensis and Burkholderia thailandensis, have been described in the literature. Infections with both of these microorganisms have occurred in the United States, but little is known about the relative virule...

BACKGROUND Infective endocarditis is rarely caused by Burkholderia cepacia. This infection is known to occur particularly in immunocompromised hosts, intravenous heroin users, and in patients with prosthetic valve replacement. Most patients with Burkholderia cepacia endocarditis usually need surgical treatment in addition to antimicrobial treatment. CASE PRESENTATION Here, we report the case ...

BpsIR, a LuxIR quorum-sensing homolog, is required for optimal expression of virulence and secretion of exoproducts in Burkholderia pseudomallei. Cell density-dependent expression of bpsI and bpsR, the positive regulation of bpsIR expression by BpsR, and the synthesis of N-octanoyl-homoserine lactone (C8HSL) by BpsI are described in this report.

Burkholderia cenocepacia is considered an opportunistic pathogen from humans and may cause disease in plants. A bioprospection from a plaguicide-contaminated agricultural field in Mexico identified several methyl parathion-degrading bacteria. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of B. cenocepacia strain CEIB S5-1, which gave us clues into ecological biodiversity.

We report here the draft genome sequence of Burkholderia gladioli strain NGJ1. The strain was isolated from healthy rice seeds and exhibits broad-spectrum antifungal activity against several agriculturally important pathogens, including Rhizoctonia solani, Magnaporthe oryzae, Venturia inaequalis, and Fusarium oxysporum.

Phenotypic and genotypic studies revealed new tools for differentiating Burkholderia cepacia genomovar VI from Burkholderia multivorans and other B. cepacia-complex species. Hence, the name Burkholderia dolosa sp. nov. is proposed, with LMG 18943(T) (=CCUG 47727(T)) as the type strain. B. dolosa can be differentiated from other B. cepacia-complex bacteria by its inability to assimilate tryptami...

Burkholderia is an important genus encompassing a variety of species, including pathogenic strains as well as strains that promote plant growth. We have carried out a global strategy, which combined two complementary approaches. The first one is genome guided with deep analysis of genome sequences and the second one is assay guided with experiments to support the predictions obtained in silico....
