Molecular clusters offer a unique environment in which the size of a solvent cage surrounding a chromophore can potentially be controlled, allowing one to study the effects of increasing solvation on reaction dynamics.‘” If charged species are employed, size selection of the initial cluster is easily accomplished with standard mass spectrometric techniques.1*2 Studies of the 720 nm IF ( C02), p...

An investigation was conducted to determine whether intermittent exposure to 3% CO2 results in a saturation of the body with carbon dioxide and whether a compensation of the respiratory acidosis is induced by carbon dioxide inhalation. One healthy male subject was exposed for six days, 15 hours daily, to a CO2 concentration rising from 0 3% at normal oxygen concentrations of 20 21% O2. Average ...

We show that a C02 laser driven from below to above threshold by pump sweeping displays a linear dependence of the peak intensity on the switch-on time. This feature is a consequence of the small spread of the switch-on times. Experimental results for the slope of the linear relation are well reproduced by a calculation based on the rate equations.

For the Ti-Al-0-C-system it is shown that it is possible to produce good quality deposits of both single-phase TiAlOC or A1203-layers and heterogeneous layers of TiAlOC and A1203 under normal pressure-CVD-conditions using a reaction gas mixture of TiC14, AlC13, H2 and a CO/C02-mixture.

M.E. De Broe, MD, PhD, Department of Nephrology-Hypertension, University Hospital Antwerp, Wilrijkstr. 10, B-2520 Edegem (Belgium) Dear Sir, Methods In a recent article in this journal [1], Faro et al. studied the influence of C02 changes, due to Co2 extraction during acetate dialysis, on the central venous blood composition and their effect on the pulmonary ventilation. They postulated that th...

THE problem of the specificity of the pyruvate oxidation system in pigeon's brain tissue has been studied more fully by us, not only in the hope that it would throw fresh light upon the path of complete oxidation of pyruvic acid, but also in the belief that knowledge of the behaviour of other simple oc-ketoacids would contribute further to the elucidation of the metabolism of some of the oxidat...

and Applied Analysis 3 The strongly maximum principle implies that the fourth-order linear boundary value problem LBVP L4 u : u 4 − βu′′ αu 0, 0 ≤ t ≤ 1, u i 0 − u i 1 0, i 0, 1, 2, u 3 0 − u 3 1 1 1.7 has a unique positive solution Φ : 0, 1 → 0,∞ , see 3, Lemma 3 . This function has been introduced in 2, Lemma 2.1 and Remark 2.1 . Let I 0, 1 , and set σ mint∈I Φ t maxt∈I Φ t , M maxt∈I |Φ′′ t ...
