Background: Preeclampsia is an idiopathic multisystem disorder specific to human pregnancy and the puerperium and hematological abnormalities may develop in preeclamptic women. This study was designed to determine coagulation parameters in patients with severe preeclampsia in Shiraz, southern Iran. Methods: From 2002 to 2005, coagulation indices including platelet count, prothrombin time (PT), ...
Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a reflection of an underlying systemic disorder which affects the coagulation system, simultaneously resulting in pro-coagulant activation, fibrinolytic activation, and consumption coagulopathy and finally may result in organ dysfunction and death. Though septicaemia is the most common cause of DIC, several other conditions can also lead to it. A ...
OBJECTIVE Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been associated with an increased cardiovascular risk, though the pathophysiologic mechanisms involved are elusive. A hypercoagulable state before occurrence of coronary thrombosis contributes to atherosclerosis development. We investigated whether PTSD would be associated with increased coagulation activity. METHODS We measured resting plasm...

OBJECTIVE Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a rare coagulation disorder associated with recurrent arterial and venous thrombotic events. We analysed our experience with five APS patients who underwent cardiac surgery. In three of them the diagnosis of APS had been established before surgery, two patients were diagnosed after surgery. METHODS From March 1999 to March 2004 five patients with A...
Hemophilia is one of the most common inherited coagulation disorder; with almost half of the cases presents in the neonatal period with bleeding episodes specially post circumcision, although family history is present in about two third cases. Retroperitoneal hemorrhage is a very rare presentation of hemophilia and to the best of our knowledge has not described yet, as initial presentation of h...
Background: Hemophilia B is a bleeding disorder with a recessive X-linked inheritance pattern, in which the infected individuals have low levels of factor IX in their plasma. Affected individuals may have bleeding episodes after trauma or spontaneously considering the plasma level of factor IX. In order to prevent these episodes and to control bleeding, they should use coagulation factor concen...
Neonatal purpura fulminans is a life threatening clinical entity characterized by extensive subcutaneous thrombosis and disseminated intravascular coagulation usually manifesting shortly after birth. We report an autosomal recessive form of the disease in a neonate who was diagnosed with compound heterozygosity for mutations in his protein C gene as the molecular basis of his disorder.
The most common coagulation disorder associated with warfarin use is bleeding, but compressive femoral neuropathy is an unusual presentation. A 63-year-old man with compressive femoral neuropathy from an iliacus haematoma is reported. The diagnosis was confirmed on magnetic resonance imaging and treated conservatively with good clinical response and radiological evidence of resolution.
This paper presents two patients with factor XII deficiency, a rare coagulation disorder, who successfully underwent surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) in Cardiac Surgery Clinic of the 4th Military Clinical Hospital in Wroclaw. Diagnosis, intra- and postoperative course as well as proposed management strategy are described.
