The process of coalescence of two identical liquid drops is simulated numerically in the framework of two essentially different mathematical models, and the results are compared with experimental data on the very early stages of the coalescence process reported recently. The first model tested is the 'conventional' one, where it is assumed that coalescence as the formation of a single body of f...

Light nuclei can be produced in the central reaction zone via coalescence in rel-ativistic heavy ion collisions. E864 at BNL has measured the production of ten stable light nuclei with nuclear number of A = 1 to A = 7 at rapidity y ≃ 1.9 and p T /A ≤ 300M eV /c. Data were taken with a Au beam of momentum of 11.5 A GeV /c on a Pb or Pt target with different experimental settings. The invariant y...

The influence of spacetime dynamics in hadronization via parton coalescence at RHIC is investigated using covariant parton transport theory. Key observables, the quark number scaling of elliptic flow and the enhancement of the p/π ratio, show strong dynamical effects and differ from earlier results based on the simple coalescence formulas.

The accurate simulation of polydisperse sprays undergoing coalescence in unsteady gaseous flows is a crucial issue. In solid rocket motors, the internal flow depends strongly on the alumina droplet size distribution, which spreads up with coalescence. Yet solving for unsteady two-phase flows with high accuracy on the droplet sizes is a challenge for both modeling and scientific computing. As an...

coalescence methods have emerged as a popular alternative for inferring species trees with large genomic datasets, because these methods explicitly account for incomplete lineage sorting. However, statistical consistency of summary coalescence methods is not guaranteed unless several model assumptions are true, including the critical assumption that recombination occurs freely among but not wit...

ab initio calculations at hf/6-31g* level of theory for geometry optimization and mp2/6-31g*//hf/6-31g*for total energy calculation are reported for z-cyclooctene (1). the most favorable conformation of 1 is theunsymmetric boat-chair (1-bc) geometry. potential energy profiles for two different boat-chair/boat-chairinterconversion processes were calculated. the process via a chair transition sta...

In this paper, a CFD model of syngas flow in slurry bubble column was developed. The model is based on an Eulerian-Eulerian approach and includes three phases: slurry of solid particles suspended in paraffin oil and syngas bubbles. Numerical calculations carried out for catalyst particles, bubble coalescence and breakup included bubble-fluid drag force and interfacial area effects. Also, the ef...

Recent data from Au + Au reactions at √ sNN = 130 and 200 GeV from RHIC show striking difference between baryons and mesons in the intermediate transverse momentum region 2 < p⊥ < 5 GeV. First, elliptic flow scales with constituent quark number[ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. The flow per constituent quark as a function of transverse momentum per constituent quark, v 2 (pT/n)/n (n = 2 for mesons, 3 for baryon...

When two drops of radius R touch, surface tension drives an initially singular motion which joins them into a bigger drop with smaller surface area. This motion is always viscously dominated at early times. We focus on the early-time behavior of the radius rm of the small bridge between the two drops. The flow is driven by a highly curved meniscus of length 2πrm and width ∆ ≪ rm around the brid...

In this note we point out the origin of the failure of the linear coalescence approach to hadronization of quark matter in heavy ion reaction. We show that the correct quark counting is performed in the simplest possible way by the nonlinear coalescence model, the ALCOR.
