The hypothesis that neurally mediated coronary vasodilation occurs as part of the carotid baroreceptor reflex was investigated. The left main coronary artery was cannulated and perfused at constant pressure (100 mm Hg) in closed-chest, chloralose-anesthetized dogs. The heart was paced at a constant rate between 60 and 70 beats/min after atrioventricular heart block. Propranolol (1 mg/kg) was gi...

We compared two methods of delivering single damped sine-wave defibrillator pulses to the coronary sinus orifice in 20 dogs. Ten dogs had "unipolar" (coronary sinus to precordial disc) and 10 had "bipolar" (coronary sinus proximal to coronary sinus distal electrode) discharges. Delivered voltage, current, and energy were recorded during each pulse. Electrophysiologic testing was done before and...

INTRODUCTION Failure to achieve left ventricular pacing remains one of the obstacles to cardiac resynchronisation therapy. METHODS A new technique for the placement of left ventricular pacing leads in the tributaries of the coronary sinus is described. Antegrade visualisation of the coronary sinus is accomplished by selective coronary angiography and a hydrophilic 0.032" wire is advanced alon...

We herein report a case in which a right coronary to coronary sinus arteriovenous fistula determined progressive aneurysmatic dilatation of the coronary sinus. Severe compression of the left atrium ensued. This led to a clinical and instrumental picture similar to that observed in severe mitral stenosis.

bicuspid aortic valve is traditionally considered an innocuous congenital anomaly. due to a better and widespread availability of non-invasive imaging techniques, it has come to the fore that 30% of these cases develop complications, viz., valve abnormality (aortic regurgitation and stenosis), and aneurysm of aortic root and ascending aorta. sinus of valsalva aneurysm is an uncommon complicatio...

cardiac anomaly (1). SVA most commonly originates in the right coronary sinus of Valsalva (75-90%), the noncoronary sinus (10-25%), and rarely, in the left sinus (1, 2). Unruptured SVA usually remains asymptomatic, but it can sometimes cause cardiac arrhythmia, myocardial ischemia, or systemic embolic events (1-3). Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) is a useful modality for examining the ...

Ventricular pre-excitation occurred in two cases in which the accessory pathways between the atria and the ventricles were histologically identified as being associated with aneurysmal malformations of the coronary sinus. In one case the connexions were in the posterior wall of the coronary sinus aneurysm and were not related to the atrioventricular annulus; in the other, a connexion was situat...

We studied atrial arrhythmias during the first 12 h of admission to the hospital in 266 consecutive patients with acute myocardial infarction who subsequently underwent coronary angiography. Ten patients developed atrial fibrillation, one atrial flutter, and one supraventricular tachycardia. Another five developed sinus dysrhythmias. All of the above patients had an acute inferior myocardial in...

Anomaly of the left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery arising from the right sinus of valsalva is frequently seen with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). The association of the LAD coronary artery with ventricular septal defect (VSD) is uncommon. We described an anomalous origin of the LAD coronary artery from the right sinus of valsalva with ventricular septal defect in a 38-year-old male pati...
