Abstract—In this study, a complex behavior in two coupled chaotic circuits related with intermittency is investigated. When each chaotic circuit generates intermittency chaos near the three-periodic window, three different synchronization states appear and disappear in a chaotic manner. This complex behavior is modeled by a first-order Markov chain with four states. Further, the phenomenon is c...
We study the dynamics of two mutually coupled chaotic oscillators with a time delayed coupling. Due to the delay, the allowed frequencies of the oscillators are shown to be discretized. The phenomenon is observed in the case when the delay is much larger than the characteristic period of the solitary uncoupled oscillator.
Amplitude death (AD) is an emergent phenomenon whereby two or more autonomously oscillating systems completely lose their oscillations due to coupling. In this work, we study AD in nonlinear oscillators with mixed time-delayed coupling, which is a combination of instantaneous and time-delayed couplings. We find that the mixed time-delayed coupling favors the onset of AD for a larger set of para...
Existing works on coherence resonance, i.e., the phenomenon of noise-enhanced temporal regularity, focus on excitable dynamical systems such as those described by the FitzHugh-Nagumo equations. We extend the scope of coherence resonance to an important class of nonexcitable dynamical systems: coupled chaotic oscillators. In particular, we argue that, when a system of coupled chaotic oscillators...
The behavior of the Lyapunov exponents (LEs) of a disordered system consisting of mutually coupled chaotic maps with different parameters is studied. The LEs are demonstrated to exhibit avoided crossing and level repulsion, qualitatively similar to the behavior of energy levels in quantum chaos. Recent results for the coupling dependence of the LEs of two coupled chaotic systems are used to exp...
Chimera states is a fascinating phenomenon of coexisting synchronized and desynchronized behavior discovered in networks of nonlocally coupled identical phase oscillators. In this work, we consider a generic model for a saddlenode bifurcation on a limit cycle representative for neuron excitability type-I. It is given by N nonlocally coupled SNIPER oscillators in the oscillatory regime arranged ...
In this review article we discuss e ects of phase synchronization of nonlinear self-sustained oscillators. Starting with a classical theory of phase locking, we extend the notion of phase to autonoumous continuous-time chaotic systems. Using as examples the well-known Lorenz and Rossler oscillators, we describe the phase synchronization of chaotic oscillators by periodic external force. Both s...
Using the Robertson projection operator formalism, we derive generalized Bloch equations which describe the dynamics of a biased two-level tunneling system strongly driven by an external field and weakly coupled to a superOhmic heat bath. The generalized Bloch equations constitute a set of coupled nonlinear integro-differential equations. With their help we investigate the influence of phonons ...
In this paper we suggest some algorithms for the fluid-structure interaction problem stated using a domain decomposition framework. These methods involve stabilized pressure segregation methods for the solution of the fluid problem and fixed point iterative algorithms for the fluid-structure coupling. With one single loop the solution of the coupled system tends to the one of the strongly coupl...
The mechanism underlying the mineralocorticoid escape phenomenon remains unknown. To assess the possible contribution of natriuretic peptides to mineralocorticoid escape, rats were injected with 5 mg deoxycorticosterone acetate for 3 d. Plasma atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) rose to twice basal levels and atrial ANF content decreased significantly by 24 h of treatment. This coincided with renal...
