This report describes the continued development of the wide-angle, low noise BALAD receiver (Bleachable Absorber Laser Amplifier and Detector). The spatial and frequency resolution of a SF, saturable absorber in a 10.6jj,m BALAD configuration has been measured. The experimental results agree with the theoretical predictions. The components of a Xenon-Xenon 3. 5jim BALAD system have been assembl...
We established a new diode array pumped Er:Yb:Glass test setup for evaluation of the laser performance and q-switch characteristics of various saturable absorber materials at 1.54um. Pumping distribution and maximum gain was analyzed. Passive q-switched laser operation was demonstrated with both U: CaF2 and Co : MgAl2O4. TEMoo Qswitch pulses with energy of 0.5mJ and pulse width of 10ns was obta...
We report on the fast (approximately 50 micros) remote-controlled switching between continuous-wave (cw), cw mode-locked (ML) and Q-switched ML modes of operation of a Nd:YVO(4) laser using an optically-pumped saturable absorber (SA). Pulses as short as 40 ps with an average output power of 0.5 W are obtained in cw ML regime.
We demonstrate wavelength switching in a novel multicavity distributed Bragg reflector semiconductor laser diode. This new device, which uses an integrated saturable absorber and singlemode fiber Bragg gratings, digitally switches wavelength as a function of drive current between all possible binary combinations.
A fiber laser resonantly pumped 1.645 μm passively Q-switched Er:YAG laser is reported. Graphene on a silicon carbide was used as the saturable absorber for the Q-switching. The pulse energy of the 1.645 μm Q-switched Er:YAG laser was 7.05 μJ, with a pulse repetition rate of 35.6 kHz and an average output power of 251 mW.

We demonstrate a dual-band Tm:ZBLAN fiber ring laser with synchronized Q-switched pulses and a dual-band simultaneous mode-locked Tm:ZBLAN fiber linear laser at 1.48 μm and 1.85 μm using a common graphene saturable absorber. Stabilization of passive harmonic mode locking is achieved for what is believed to be the first time in an Er-Yb soliton fiber laser by optical pumping of the semiconductor saturable absorber above the bandgap. The results show 35-dB mode suppression of undesired harmonics.
A low-loss semiconductor saturable absorber based on InGaAs quantum wells was developed for highly efficient Q switching of a diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser operating at 1123 nm. With an incident pump power of 16 W, an average output power of 3.1 W with a Q-switched pulse width of 77 ns at a pulse repetition rate of 100 kHz was obtained.
We report on the experimental observation of gain-guided vector solitons (GGVSs) in a dispersion-managed fiber laser mode-locked with a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM). Both the frequency-locked and phase-locked GGVS were observed. In addition, formation of multiple GGVSs and GGVS harmonic mode-locking were also experimentally revealed. Numerical simulations confirmed the GGVS f...
