Engineering of craniofacial tissues would have a profound impact on various treatment strategies in dentistry. The role of mesenchymal stem cells in the formation of all craniofacial and dental structures has been well demonstrated. Stem cells from various craniofacial structures like dental epithelium, dental follicle, apical papilla, exfoliated deciduous teeth, periodontal ligament and dental...

Craniofacial disorders are one of the most common category of birth defects worldwide, and are an important topic of biomedical research. In order to better understand these disorders and correlate them with genetic patterns and life outcomes, researchers need to quantify the craniofacial anatomy. In this paper we introduce several different craniofacial descriptors that are being used in resea...

We report a pair of twins with variable expressions of Fryns syndrome, both of whom died in the neonatal period. The syndrome is characterised by craniofacial dysmorphism, diaphragmatic hernia and distal limb hypoplasia. With this report, there are a total of 83 cases reported in the literature and this further serves to illustrate the clinical variability of this disorder.

The spectrum of craniofacial malformations includes conditions of congenital and acquired etiology. The conditions of craniofacial atrophy and hypoplasia may arise primarily or secondary to previous therapeutic interventions. The conditions of progressive hemifacial atrophy (Romberg disease) and radiation-induced hypoplasia will be reviewed on the basis of their etiology, pathogenesis, anatomy,...

Hemifacial Microsomia (HFM) is a term used to identify facial deformities associated with the development ofthe first and second pairs of branchial arches, characterized by underdevelopment one half face. One typeof hemifacial microsomia oculo-auriculo-vertebral dysplasia or Goldenhar syndrome. The incidence HFM 1:3500-1:7000 live births occurs in 1 case per 1000 children congenitaldeafness. The...

To achieve craniofacial symmetry is one of the important goals of orthodontic and orthognathic treatment planning. With the increasing popularity of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) in recent years, it is frequently considered for three-dimensional evaluation of craniofacial asymmetry. Currently, there are no published reviews reporting craniofacial modularization to explain the aggravated ...

BACKGROUND Although functional immobility of craniofacial structures during direct laryngoscopy may cause difficult tracheal intubation (DTI), there may be an unfavorable specific craniofacial feature for successful tracheal intubation. The aim of this study was to identify the specific craniofacial features associated with DTI. METHODS Digital photographs of nonobese patients with DTI (23 ma...
