PURPOSE Targeted therapy increases survival and the quality of life of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients but it needs precise histological subtyping. The present study evaluated 6 monoclonal antibodies for the differential diagnosis of NSCLC on small-sized tissue samples. METHODS 50 small-sized tissue samples were obtained by bronchoscopy or fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB). Acc...

The objective is to compare the performance of immunohistochemistry (IHC) with that of reverse transcription (RT)-PCR for detecting clinically significant micrometastases in histopathologically normal archival pelvic lymph nodes (PLN) removed at radical prostatectomy from men with locally advanced nonmetastatic prostate cancer. We stained 1864 fixed, paraffin-embedded PLNs from 199 pT3N0M0 pros...

Cytokeratins have previously been shown to exist in the Xenopus oocyte cortex. Using three monoclonal antibodies against cytokeratins, we follow the appearance of cytokeratin-containing filaments, and their changes in distribution during oocyte differentiation and maturation. Cytokeratin-containing filaments are shown to change dramatically in distribution in the oocyte during its ontogeny.

We read with great interest a recently published article by Lecoutere et al [1] entitled “multifocal cytokeratin expression in pleural and abdominal malignant solitary fibrous tumor: an unusual diagnostic pitfall”. Authors showed three histologically and immunohistochemically welldocumented cases of pleural and abdominal malignant solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) with unexpected multifocal expressi...

The differential diagnosis between hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), cholangiocarcinoma (CC) and metastatic colorectal adenocarcinoma (MCA) may be difficult when only based on morphology. For this purpose immunohistochemical analyses are often required, utilizing antibodies directed against CK8-18, Hep-Par1, glypican 3, CK7, CK19, CK20. Here we report a case of a 65-year-old man who presented wit...

BACKGROUND It has been suggested that the humoral immune system plays a role in the pathogenesis of cryptogenic fibrosing alveolitis (CFA). Although circulating autoantibodies to lung protein(s) have been suggested, none of the lung proteins have been characterised. The purpose of this study was to determine the antigen to which the serum from patients with pulmonary fibrosis reacted. METHODS...

BACKGROUND Circulating epithelial progenitor cells are important for repair of the airway epithelium in a mouse model of tracheal transplantation. We therefore hypothesized that circulating epithelial progenitor cells would also be present in normal human subjects and could be important for repair of the airway after lung injury. As lung transplantation is associated with lung injury, which is ...
