An aqueous diluent containing Tween 60 and Arlacel 80 gave greater recovery of microorganisms when compared with two common diluents as determined by aerobic plate count of inoculated anhydrous cosmetics. The greater recovery was caused by better dispersion of the anhydrous cosmetics in the diluents.

In Victoria the usual diluent for deep frozen bull semen consists of a mixture of egg yolk, sodium citrate and glycerol. The semen is equilibrated in this mixture for 17 hours prior to freezing. O’Dell and Almquist (1957), and Amman and Almquist (1957) found that survival of spermatozoa as assessed by motility was increased when the semen was diluted with a mixture of glycerol, fructose and ski...

Nicotinic acid (also known as pyridine-3-carboxylic acid) is widely used in food, pharmaceutical and biochemical industries. The extraction of nicotinic acid by tri-noctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) with kerosene (diluent) is studied. The equilibrium experiments are carried out to investigate the effects of diluent, extractant (TOPO) composition and initial acid concentration on extraction efficienc...

The in vivo effect of recombinant murine granulocytemacrophage colony stimulating factor (rGM-CSF) on the resistance of mice to bacterial infection and on the number and function of neutrophils was studied in lethally irradiated mice transplanted with syngeneic bone marrow cells. Bone marrow transplanted (BMT) mice were injected intraperitoneally with 150 ng rGM-CSF or buffer solution (diluent)...

Taxol is a promising agent for use in ovarian cancer and other malig nancies. One problem associated with taxol is its low aqueous solubility, requiring Cremophor EL (polyethoxylated castor oil) and ethanol as ex cipients (Diluent 12); these agents cause serious adverse effects. Liposomes containing taxol and phospholipid (in a 1:33 mole ratio, respectively) were prepared from phosphatidylglyce...

A calcium-free Krebs Ringer solution, supplemented with 1 mg/ml glucose, with or without 0.025% formalin, was used to dilute freshly collected ram semen on a 1:l basis. The treated semen was inseminated into the cervix of Merino ewes either within 60 minutes of collection or after storage at 5OC for 24 h. Although the Ringer-formalin diluent always caused complete immobilisation of the spermato...

A new diluent (ADGP) for the rubella virus hemagglutination (HA) and hemagglutination-inhibition (HI) tests is described. It was found that the HA and HI titers and the erythrocyte agglutination pattern were improved in ADGP compared to previously described diluents. The influence of the components of ADGP and of various test conditions on optimal HA and HI results were examined.

The flammable propane–air mixtures raise specific safety and environmental issues in the industry, storage, handling transportation; therefore dilution of such has gained significant importance from viewpoint fire safety, but also due to nitrogen oxide’s emission control through flameless/mild combustion. In this paper, propagation flame C3H8-air-diluent stoichiometric gaseous using Ar, N2 CO2 ...

The PUREX method is the standard aqueous reprocessing method for the recovery of uranium and plutonium from used nuclear fuel; the method involves the extraction with tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) diluted with an organic solvent. n-Dodecane is the best organic diluent owing to its separation performance and its resistance to radiation and ignition. In addition, dilution with a hydrocarbon facilit...
