This case details the successful implementation of a leadless pacemaker device in a patient with multiple venous occlusions and an IVC filter. As the incidence of IVC filters increases in patients with dysrhythmias, further investigations are required to determine the risk and safety of leadless pacemaker placement in this population.

Electrolyte abnormalities are common in emergency medicine and can vary greatly in importance, severity, and symptoms. Asymptomatic electrolyte abnormalities can usually be gradually corrected, but those that cause alterations in consciousness or lifethreatening dysrhythmias require immediate therapy to avoid permanent sequelae or death. In some cases, therapy for lifethreatening electrolyte di...
Isolated syncope is a rare manifestation of seizures in children and it is a poorly localizing sign in the evaluation of seizures in children. Many times, such episodes are mistaken as primary cardiac dysrhythmias and we present herewith one such case in a child, who succumbed to the illness despite treatment.
We report a case of immediate reproducible and reflexive response of asystole upon stimulation of Onyx injection during embolization of a tentorial dural arteriovenous fistula in a 53-year-old man. Upon recognition of the reflexive relationship between Onyx injection and increased vagal tone, the patient was given anticholinergic in an effort to block cholinergic hyperactivity. After atropine w...
QT Prolongation and Drug Interactions Leading to QT Prolongation Co-administration of the following drugs with ketoconazole is contraindicated: dofetilide, quinidine, pimozide, cisapride. Ketoconazole can cause elevated plasma concentrations of these drugs and may prolong QT intervals, sometimes resulting in life-threatening ventricular dysrhythmias such as torsades de pointes. See CONTRAINDICA...
Delayed gastric emptying is common following severe large cutaneous burns; however, the mechanisms of burn-induced delayed gastric emptying remain unknown. The aim of this study was to explore the possible involvement of hyperglycemia and cyclooxygenase-2 receptors in the burn-induced gastric dysrhythmias. Gastric slow waves and gastric emptying were assessed in rats 6 h following sham or burn ...
CONTEXT For patients on T(4) replacement, the dose is guided by serum TSH concentrations, but some patients request higher doses due to adverse symptoms. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to determine the safety of patients having a low but not suppressed serum TSH when receiving long-term T(4) replacement. DESIGN We conducted an observational cohort study, using data linkage from regional...
Acute hyperglycemia disrupts gastric myoelectric rhythm in healthy humans. Defective nitrergic function is a factor in animal models of diabetic gastropathy. We tested participation of nitrergic pathways in hyperglycemia-evoked myoelectric dysrhythmias and compared their role in preventing dysrhythmic actions of experimental motion sickness. Twelve healthy volunteers underwent electrogastrograp...
Transcatheter closure of atrial septal defect (ASD) has been used as an alternative to open heart surgery. Although transcatheter closure of ASD with the Amplatzer septal occluder is a safe and feasible method in pediatric patients, there is little published data on arrhythmia analysis following transcatheter device closure of secundum ASD. We evaluated cardiac dysrhythmias with 24-hour ambulat...
