The objective of this model is to investigate the inventory system for perishable items with linear demand pattern where Weibull deterioration is considered. The Economic order quantity is determined for minimizing the average total cost per unit time. The unit production cost is taken to be inversely related to the demand rate. The result is illustrated with numerical example.

The classical optimization techniques are often used to derive and to assert the optimal solution for the well-known inventory models such as the economic order/production quantity (EOQ/EPQ) models. Recently, a new approach, without reference to the use of derivatives but with algebraic derivation, is presented to solve the above deterministic EOQ/EPQ models with/without shortages. To widen the...

It is generally assumed that Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has the potential to organize the flow of material in supply chains more efficiently. Based on the two-tiered Joint Economic Lot Size (JELS) model by Banerjee, this article analyzes how the increase in efficiency affects the order and production policies and therefore the total costs of the supply chain, and the individual costs...

We consider a continuous review inventory system that faces two different cases of demand processes. In one case demand follows a compound Poisson process. In the other case demand is a combination of a constant deterministic component and a random component which follows a compound Poisson process. We assume negligible lead time. Orders occur when inventory level drops to or below level zero, ...

The present work deals with the supply chain problems related to perishable products. The EOQ model has been used to analyze the data collected and suggest a ordering policy that will minimize the loses and maximize the organizational value. The work provides a suggestion for managers to take decision regarding use of self space and reordering of items depending on the inventory usage.

Considerable attention to coordinate the system between buyer and vendor has become an interesting issue to efficiently increase the performance of supply chain activities. Joint economic lot size model (JELS) has been introduced by many researchers as the spirit of coordinating the flow of material from the vendor to its downstream. As an inventory replenishment technique, JELS model is center...

An inventory management system for defective items with backordered shortages is explored, in which we assume that the quality of an ordered lot is not always 100% perfect, so a screening process to each product is conducted to split that lot into perfect and defective products. Meanwhile, the defective products include imperfect and scrap ones, which will be sold at a discount price and dispos...

Many times it happens that units ordered are not of 100% good quality. A deterministic inventory model with imperfect quality is developed when the deterioration rate is Weibull distribution. Here it is assumed that holding cost is time dependent. The model has been framed to study the items whose deterioration rate increase with time under permissible delay in payments with imperfect quality. ...

United States is once again experiencing record levels of immigration. As with European immigrants arriving a century ago, concerns have been raised about the ultimate success of the new arrivals from Latin America and Asia (Suárez-Orozco and Suárez-Orozco 2001). Of particular concern are future prospects for children of immigrants who arrive with few human-capital resources and settle in racia...

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament qualifies as a sports mega-event, and cities across the United States compete vigorously with one another to host what is, by most measures, the premier intercollegiate sporting event in the United States. The promise of substantial economic impact has convinced cities to “invest” substantial sums of money to meet the dem...
