Networks of living neurons exhibit an avalanche mode of activity, experimentally found in organotypic cultures. Here we present a model that is based on self-organized criticality and takes into account brain plasticity, which is able to reproduce the spectrum of electroencephalograms (EEG). The model consists of an electrical network with threshold firing and activity-dependent synapse strengt...

BACKGROUND Executive function refers to conscious control in psychological process which relates to thinking and action. Emotional decision is a part of hot executive function and contains emotion and logic elements. As a kind of important social adaptation ability, more and more attention has been paid in recent years. OBJECTIVE Gambling task can be well performed in the study of emotional d...

A power spectrum density (PSD) analysis was performed on electroencephalograms (EEG) of sleeping epileptic El mice and non-epileptic ddY mice. A respiratory peak at 3.13 Hz was detected in the EEGs of both categories. The PSD analysis revealed a peak at 8.59 Hz in the El mice, which was associated with interictal discharges. This peak may be helpful in diagnosing epilepsy.

OBJECTIVE Intrinsic complexity subserves adaptability in biological systems. One recently developed measure of intrinsic complexity of biological systems is multiscale entropy (MSE). Autism spectrum conditions (ASC) have been described in terms of reduced adaptability at a behavioural level and by patterns of atypical connectivity at a neural level. Based on these observations we aimed to test ...

Introduction: The central-governor model explains the mechanism of endurance exercise-induced central fatigue, but high-intensity exercise-induced central fatigue has not been investigated yet. This study aimed to research how central fatigue during high-intensity intermittent pedaling alters the neural response, which results in electroencephalography (EEG) recordings. Methods: We assessed ne...

Objectives: 1to evaluate the ability of the power spectrum of brain electrical activity to discriminate between age matched normal children and children diagnosed as learning disabled (LD) and, 2to correlate brain electrical activity with intelligence, school achievement and neuropsychological performance test scores. Methods: Electrical potentials (EEG) were recorded from 19 channels in a rest...

OBJECTIVE According to previous EEG reports of indicative disturbances in Alpha and Beta activities, a systematic search for distinct EEG abnormalities in a broader population of Ecstasy users may especially corroborate the presumed specific neurotoxicity of Ecstasy in humans. METHODS 105 poly-drug consumers with former Ecstasy use and 41 persons with comparable drug history without Ecstasy u...

Spectral decomposition, to this day, still remains the main analytical paradigm for the analysis of EEG oscillations. However, conventional spectral analysis assesses the mean characteristics of the EEG power spectra averaged out over extended periods of time and/or broad frequency bands, thus resulting in a "static" picture which cannot reflect adequately the underlying neurodynamic. A relativ...

EEG-biofeedback has been reported to reduce symptoms of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in several studies. However, these studies did not control for nonspecific effects of EEG-biofeedback and did not distinguish between participants who succeeded in influencing their own EEG activity and participants who did not. To overcome these methodological shortcomings, this study evaluated the effects ...

Abstract Electroencephagram (EEG) is the recording of electrical activity of the brain. Though it is intended to record cerebral signals,it also records the signals that are not of cerebral origin called artifacts. Artifact removal from EEG signals is essential for better diagnosis. This paper proposes a hybrid learning algorithm based on Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) for elimin...
