Electron transfer from photoexcited CdS nanorods to [FeFe]-hydrogenase is a critical step in photochemical H2 production by CdS-hydrogenase complexes. By accounting for the distributions in the numbers of electron traps and enzymes adsorbed, we determine rate constants and quantum efficiencies for electron transfer from transient absorption measurements.
The dulling of cemented carbide cutting tools after milling five African wood species was studied. The wood specimens investigated varied in high temperature corrosivity (HTC), hard mineral contamination (HMC), and density (D). Attempts to replace the combustion method of evaluating the content of natural HMC in wood with spectral mass analysis methods, such as energy dissipative spectrum (EDAX...
An analysis of attenuation and absorption lengths of the electron number using data of the KASCADE air shower experiment is presented. The following methods are used to determine these quantities: The method of constant intensity, the attenuation of the electron number at the knee with increasing atmospheric depth, the decrease of the flux at a constant electron number with increasing zenith an...
In this work, we designed three dyes (Ru1, Ru2, and Ru3) by modifying the square-planar quadridentate ligand of the experimental Ru(ii) complex K1, [RuL(trans-NCS)2] with L = dimethyl-6,60-bis(methyl-2-pyridylamino)-2,20-bipyridine-4,40-dicarboxylate, from a theoretical viewpoint. As is known, K1 shows obvious advantages over the famous dye N749 in light absorption ability because of its highly...
The anisotropic hole and electron mobilities in N,N'-3,4,9,10-perylenediimide-1,7-phenoxy (PDIB-2OPh) and N,N'-3,4,9,10-perylenediimide (PDIB) were theoretically predicted using the Marcus-Hush theory. The substituent effect of phenoxy on their mobility rates, absorption spectra, electron affinities, and ionization potentials was explored. By comparing the simulated hole mobility in PDIB and PD...
Understanding excited carrier dynamics in semiconductors is crucial for the development of photovoltaics and efficient photonic devices. However, overlapping spectral features in optical pump-probe spectroscopy often render assignments of separate electron and hole carrier dynamics ambiguous. Here, ultrafast electron and hole dynamics in germanium nanocrystalline thin films are directly and sim...
Triton-fractionated photosystem-I particles poised at -625 mV, where the two bound iron-sulfur proteins are reduced, have been studied by optical and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopies from 293 to 5 K. At 5-9 K, these particles exhibit two decay components with lifetimes of 1.3 and 130 msec in the laser pulse-induced absorption and electron paramagnetic resonance signal changes. Spe...
The initial electron transfer in reaction centers from Rhodobacter sphaeroides R26 was studied by a subpicosecond transient pump-probe technique. The measured kinetics at various wavelengths were analyzed and compared with several mechanisms for electron transfer. An unambiguous determination of the initial electron transfer mechanism in reaction centers cannot be made by studying the anion abs...
1.1 Fluorescence phenomenon The absorption and subsequent emission of light by organic and inorganic specimens is typically the result of physical phenomena known as luminescence, which occurs at electronically excited states. Luminescence is formally divided into two categories: fluorescence and phosphorescence, depending on the nature of the excited state. Fluorescence occurs when a photon ex...
