Electron transport in mesoscopic conductors has traditionally involved investigations of the mean current and the fluctuations of the current. A complementary view on charge transport is provided by the distribution of waiting times between charge carriers, but a proper theoretical framework for coherent electronic systems has so far been lacking. Here we develop a quantum theory of electron wa...

We present a fast and versatile algorithm for the reconstruction of the grain structure from 2d and 3d Electron Back Scatter Diffraction (EBSD) data. The algorithm is rigorously derived from the modeling assumption that grain boundaries are located at the bisectors of adjacent measurement locations. This modeling assumption immediately implies that grains are composed of Voronoi cells correspon...

Sub-oxide-to-metallic highly-crystalline nanowires with uniformly distributed nanopores in the 3 nm range have been synthesized by a unique combination of the plasma oxidation, re-deposition and electron-beam reduction. Electron beam exposure-controlled oxide → sub-oxide → metal transition is explained using a non-equilibrium model.

We consider electron transport in a planar fermion model containing various types of line defects modeled by δ-function pseudopotentials with different matrix coefficients. After determining the necessary boundary conditions, the transmission probability for electron transport through the defect line is obtained for various types of pseudopotentials. For the schematic model considered, which ma...

The study of atomic structure of surfaces is fundamental to the understanding of electronic, chemical and mechanical properties of surfaces and numerous techniques have been developed to this end. Transmission Electron Microscopy techniques, namely transmission electron imaging (TEM) and diffraction (TED), due to their ability to provide structural information at very high resolutions, have eme...

We find no physical basis for traditional mass-fraction weighted averaging of X-ray continuum measured in pure elements to estimate continuum production from compounds. Measurements of continuum from pairs of stable isotopes demonstrate that mass alone (the presence of more or fewer neutrons) has no effect on continuum production in electron probe microanalysis. Electron-fraction weighted avera...

X-ray diffractive imaging with laterally coherent x-ray free-electron laser (XFEL) pulses is increasingly utilized to obtain ultrafast snapshots of matter. Here we report the amazing disappearance of single-shot charge and magnetic diffraction patterns recorded with resonantly tuned, narrow bandwidth XFEL pulses. Our experimental results reveal the exquisite sensitivity of single-shot charge an...

introduction: to examine the long-term effects of normal saline and a synthetic tissue fluid (phosphate buffered saline, pbs) on mineral trioxide aggregate (mta). materials and methods: root-ends of twelve extracted human teeth were resected; root-end cavities were prepared and filled with mta. samples were randomly divided into two groups of six each. teeth in group i were placed in normal sal...

The partitioning of solute elements during intercritical annealing and the effects on ferrite transformation slow cooling after in a 0.17% C-1.5% Si-1.7% Mn (mass%) steel were investigated by new FE-EPMA (field emission electron probe microanalysis) technique. This technique enables highly accurate measurement C distribution. During annealing, concentrated into austenite, while Si ferrite. dist...
