: BHK-21-cI3 fibroblasts were incubated with [I-3H, U-14C]glucose or 14C]glucose to produce intracellular [3H]NADPH via the phosphogluconate pathway. 3H and 14C were then determined at the th~ee positions of glycerol in glycerol phosphate, saponifiable glycerolipids, alkyl ether glycerolipids and plasmalogens. The 3H/14C ratio at C-2 in glycerol of saponifiable glycerolipids is 2-10 fold greate...

This experiment aimed to determine the effects of camelina seed (CS) supplementation at different dietary fat levels on ruminal bacterial community composition and how it relates to changes in ruminal fermentation in a dual-flow continuous culture system. Diets were randomly assigned to 8 fermenters (1,200-1,250 mL) in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments in a replicated 4 × 4 Latin squa...

A novel chiral spiro-pyrrolidine silyl ether organocatalyst has been designed. Its catalytic asymmetric effect is demonstrated by the Michael addition reaction, which affords the desired products with an all-carbon quaternary center in up to 99% ee and 87% yield. Furthermore, the reaction process has been investigated via in situ NMR experiments.

Carum copticum is a grassy and annual plant which is believed to have several therapeutic effects, including anti-asthmatic properties. We have therefore studied the bronchodilatory and anticholinergic effects of 4 rnL aqueous extract (AE), 0.0 5 mL ethanol extract (EE), and 0.0 0 5 mL essential oil (EO) of Carum copticum and 1 rnL of a 5 mM solution of its main ingredient, thymol (T), in ...

This work describes catalytic and asymmetric aziridinations (15 examples, 95-98% ee) of benzyl bromide and imines via the imino Corey-Chaykovsky reaction using (thiolan-2-yl)diarylmethanol benzyl ether as an organocatalyst. The catalyst and analogues thereof were prepared through an expeditious and efficient synthetic route featuring a double nucleophilic substitution and Shi epoxidation as key...

Highly stereoselective chelation-controlled Pd(0)-catalyzed beta-arylations and beta-vinylations of a five-membered chiral, pyrrolidine-based vinyl ether were achieved using aryl- and vinyl chlorides as substrates, yielding quaternary 2-aryl/vinyl-2-methyl cyclopentanones in 89-96% ee under neutral reaction conditions.

The in vitro antimicrobial activity of serial petroleum ether, chloroform and methanol extracts from leaves of Aegle mawmelos were investigated against bacterial and fungal species. All the extracts exhibited broad spectrum antimicrobial activity with zones of inhibition ranging from 10 to 22 mm against bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, beta Streptococcus haemolyticus group A, Proteus mimrabilis...

Due to the increasing emergence of drug resistant Tuberculosis (TB), particularly multidrug resistant TB (MDR-TB), extensive-drug resistant TB (XDR-TB) and also the development of resistance in the micro-organisms against available drugs there is a need to develop new, potent, fast-acting antibacterial and antitubercular drugs with low toxicity. With this aim different extracts of Phaseolus vul...

Extracts of five halophytes from southern Portugal (Arthrocnemum macrostachyum, Mesembryanthemum edule, Juncus acutus, Plantago coronopus and Halimione portulacoides), were studied for antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and in vitro antitumor properties. The most active extracts towards the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical were the methanol extracts of M. edule (IC₅₀ = 0.1 mg/mL) and J....

Whole plant sunflower and sunflower without head were ensiled in plastic containers using additives in a 2×2×2×2 factorial arrangement in a completely randomized design with three replicates. Additives were molasses, urea (at 4 and 0.5 percent wet basis respectively), and a bacterial inoculant (Agros 6gr/ton of forage as manufacture’s instruction). Compared with silages without head, ensiling s...
