We have performed molecular dynamics simulations of solid-solid contacts lubricated by a model fluid displaying many of the properties of water, particularly its expansive freezing. Near the region where expansive freezing occurs, the lubricating film remains fluid, and the friction force decreases linearly as the shear velocity is reduced. No sign of stick-slip motion is observed, even at the ...

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (AFO) is a rare, mixed odontogenic tumor that usually occurs in children and young adults with no gender predominance. Posterior mandibular region is usually involved and a painless swelling is the most common clinical feature.CASE REPORT: We here report a case of AFO in a 12-year-old girl with a complaint of a painful expansive lesion in the righ...

Let d ≥ 1, and let α be an expansive Z-action by continuous automorphisms of a compact abelian group X with completely positive entropy. Then the group ∆α(X) of homoclinic points of α is countable and dense in X, and the restriction of α to the α-invariant subgroup ∆α(X) is a Z-action by automorphisms of ∆α(X). By duality, there exists a Z-action α∗ by automorphisms of the compact abelian group...

Probabilistic RoadMaps (PRMs) are quite successful in solving complex and high-dimensional motion planning problems. While particularly suited for multiple-query scenarios and expansive spaces, they lack efficiency in both solving a small number of queries in an environment and mapping narrow spaces. Two PRM variants separately tackle these gaps. Lazy PRM reduces the computational cost of roadm...

We study expansive invertible onesided cellular automata (i.e., expansive automorphisms of onesided full shifts) and find severe dynamical and arithmetic constraints which provide partial answers to questions raised by M. Nasu [N2]. We employ the images and bilateral dimension groups, measure multipliers, and constructive combinatorial characterizations for two classes of cellular automata.

In this paper, we show that if a transitive set Λ is C-stably expansive, then Λ admits a dominated splitting.

We investigate striped structures of stable and unstable sets of expansive homeomorphisms and continuum-wise expansive homeomorphisms. The following theorem is proved: if f : X → X is an expansive homeomorphism of a compact metric space X with dimX > 0, then the decompositions {W (x) | x ∈ X} and {W (x) | x ∈ X} of X into stable and unstable sets of f respectively are uncountable, and moreover ...

Expansive pedicle screws significantly improve fixation strength in osteoporotic spines. However, the previous literature does not adequately address the effects of the number of lengthwise slits and the extent of screw expansion on the strength of the bone/screw interface when expansive screws are used with or without cement augmentation. Herein, four designs for expansive pedicle screws with ...
