This paper deals with the single server queue with batch arrivals. We show that under suitable conditions the waiting time distribution of an individual customer has an asymptotically exponential expansion. For the practically important case of phase-type distributions for the interarrival time and the service time a computationally useful characterization of the amplitude factor and the decay ...

We show the exponential decay of eigenfunctions of second-order geometric many-body type Hamiltonians at non-threshold energies. Moreover, in the case of first order and small second order perturbations we show that there are no eigenfunctions with positive energy.

A long flux enhancement, with an exponential decay time of 86 min, is detected in 4U 1735−44 with the BeppoSAX Wide Field Cameras. We argue that this is a type I X-ray burst, making it the longest such burst ever observed. Current theories for thermonuclear bursts predict shorter and more frequent bursts for the observed persistent accretion rate.

The fluorescence decay kinetics of photosynthetic mutants of Chlamydornonas reinhardii which lack photosystem 11 (PS 11), photosystem I (PS I), and both PS I1 and PS I have been measured. The PS I1 mutant strain 8-36C exhibits fluorescence decay lifetime components of 53, 424 and 2197 ps. The fluorescence decay of a PS I mutant strain 12-7 contains two major fluorescence decay components with l...

In this work we investigate the exponential stability of the zero solution to systems of dynamic equations on time scales. We define suitable Lyapunov-type functions and then formulate appropriate inequalities on these functions that guarantee that the zero solution decay to zero exponentially. Several examples are given.

When noise is present in a scattering system, particles tend to escape faster from the scattering region as compared with the noiseless case. For chaotic scattering, noise can render particle-decay exponential, and the decay rate typically increases with the noise intensity. We uncover a scaling law between the exponential decay rate and the noise intensity. The finding is substantiated by a he...

We present a new and simple bound for the exponential decay of second order systems using the spectral shift. This result is applied to finite matrices as well as to partial differential equations of Mathematical Physics. The type of the generated semigroup is shown to be bounded by the upper real part of the numerical range of the underlying quadratic operator pencil.

The paper deals with the presence of exponential or power-law decay in the power spectra of electroencephalogram (EEG). About 2300 EEG time series recorded during relaxed wakefulness were analysed. The whole spectrum of EEG was studied and power-law decay of about 2.28 prevailing over the exponential falling off was established. Correspondence between spectrum power-law decay and correlation di...

We establish exponential localization for a multi-particle Anderson model in a Euclidean space R, d ≥ 1, in presence of a non-trivial short-range interaction and an alloy-type random external potential. Specifically, we prove that all eigenfunctions with eigenvalues near the lower edge of the spectrum decay exponentially.
