A fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor with heat resistance was produced via a point microfabrication technique using a femtosecond pulse laser. The FBG sensor was reinforced by weaving with a carbon fiber tape. As a result, both high strength and a structure for mounting the sensor were readily incorporated. In a high-temperature tolerance evaluation of the FBG sensor, the temperature and strain w...

Array waveguide grating(AWG) is a kind of role scattered light passive device base on the plane wave circuit technology. A broadband laser beam can be divided into multibeam laser light by wavelength. In this paper, the characteristics of AWG are used and based on previous studies. Using an array waveguide grating fiber Bragg grating (FBG) demodulation method, and the mathematical model of FBG ...

This study integrated a fiber loop manufactured by using commercial fiber (SMF-28, Corning) and a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) to form a fiber optic sensor that could simultaneously measure displacement and temperature. The fiber loop was placed in a thermoelectric cooling module with FBG affixed to the module, and, consequently, the center wavelength displacement of FBG was limited by only the ef...

A microhole array in a common single-mode fiber is fabricated by selective chemical etching of femtosecond-laser-induced fiber Bragg grating (FBG), which has a laser-modified region extending from the fiber core to the cladding-air boundary due to laser self-focusing. The shape and size of the orderly microhole on the fiber surface are controlled via changing conditions of FBG fabrication and c...

This work presents a new sequential UV-writing procedure for fabricating long fiber Bragg grating (FBG) devices. To real-time accurately align the position of every exposed FBG section prior to UV exposure, a single-period reference fiber grating with strong refractive index modulation is probed by applying an interferometric side-diffraction method to measure the grating phase as the position ...

We have evaluated the performance of strain-chirped fiber Bragg grating (FBG) based tunable dispersion compensator in a 40 Gb/s transmission link. In our proposed compensator, the value of dispersion could be changed from -353 ps/nm to -962 ps/nm by adjusting the rotation angle of the metal beam on which the FBG was mounted. In order to evaluate the effect of ripples in reflectivity and variati...

We report results from a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) based scheme for vibration sensing in combustion engines. The vibration sensing is carried out using a commercial high speed spectrometer. We compare the performance of the FBG sensor with commercial PZT-based sensors and find that the FBGs perform as well.

A fiber Bragg grating- (FBG-) based fiber-ring laser that utilizes the transmitted light of the FBG as self-injection feedback for single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) oscillation is proposed and demonstrated. This laser is simply constructed by means of feeding back the transmitted light of the FBG and is coupled into the main ring cavity through an optical coupler. The self-injection feedback is th...

In this paper, we give a short review of Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors for the detection of acoustic signals, in particular ultrasound. The primary advantage of FBGs as sensing elements is their spectral encoding of the measurand, which can be either strain or temperature. However, spectral decoding methods cannot be utilized to detect high frequency signals due to their inherent low speed....
