Municipal solid waste (MSW) flue gas residues require further treatment prior to disposal or reuse, and vitrification is one of the main solidification-stabilization processes. This paper investigates the high temperature behavior of MSW flue gas residues, performed in laboratory experiments up to 1400 degrees C, and coupled with thermogravimetric analyses, X-ray diffraction, chemical and elect...

The Thief Process is a cost-effective variation to activated carbon injection (ACI) for removal of mercury from flue gas. In this scheme, partially combusted coal from the furnace of a pulverized coal power generation plant is extracted by a lance and then re-injected into the ductwork downstream of the air preheater. Recent results on a 500-lb/h pilot-scale combustion facility show similar rem...

Companies that generate a large amount of wood ash will need an industrial process to agglomerate the ash and lower its reactivity, because untreated ash is a dust hazard for workers and is difficult to spread evenly on forest soil. In addition, untreated ash can cause burning damage to vegetation owing to its alkalinity and rapid release of salts. Production of large amounts of wood ash agglom...

Základné vlastnosti sadrovca pre odsírenie spalín Several hundred thousand of FGD gypsum is produced annually at the Matra Power Plant (Hungary) as a byproduct of generating electricity and protecting the environment. Chemical and mechanical characteristics of this material were studied of the Department of Mining and Geotechnical Engineering, University of Miskolc (Hungary). The material in qu...

This study presents the results of a dioxin abatement programme undertaken in the municipal waste incineration plant of Montcada i Reixac (Barcelona, Spain) after the replacement of an obsolete air cleaning device by a new flue gas treatment system. A number of sampling campaigns were conducted with the aim of characterising stack gas emission levels of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs)...

High-temperature implosions are planned for the OMEGA Upgrade experimental program. By using relatively thin shell targets, temperatures much higher than 1 keV at modest compressed densities (1 to 5 g/cm3) are predicted. The goal of this work is to demonstrate that by adding a small admixture of krypton gas (-0.01 atm) to the fuel, the temperature can be conveniently diagnosed through the spect...

In this paper, we develop several techniques for computing the higher G-theory and K-theory of quotient stacks. Our main results for computing these groups are in terms of spectral sequences. We show that these spectral sequences degenerate in the case of many toric stacks, thereby providing an efficient computation of their higher K-theory. We apply our main results to give explicit descriptio...

We study the local properties of Artin stacks and their good moduli spaces, if they exist. We show that near closed points with linearly reductive stabilizer, Artin stacks formally locally admit good moduli spaces. We also give conditions for when the existence of good moduli spaces can be deduced from the existence of étale charts admitting good moduli spaces.

In this paper we propose a method to improve thewaveguides for optical communications based on 2-dimen-sional photonic crystals. To this purpose a standard channelwaveguide is sandwiched between two omnidirectionalChigrin-type 1D dielectric layer stacks. The combination oftotal internal reflection and photonic band gap reflectionenables improved confinement of optical si...

A rise in CO2 and other greenhouse gases’ concentration from gas refinery flares and furnaces in the atmosphere causes environmental problems. In this work, a new process was designed to use waste gas (flue gas and flare gas) of a domestic gas refinery to produce pure hydrogen in a membrane reactor. In particular, the process foresees that the energy and CO2 content of flue gas can provide the ...
