To obtain a fundamental knowledge of the morphological relationship between nerve root symptoms and circulatory disorders, the distribution pattern of the veins in the lumbar spinal ganglia from the first to fifth vertebrae was investigated in 5 adult human cadavers (mean age 69.6 years) and 5 human fetuses (mean age 6.6 months). The following results were obtained: 1) In the adults the veins p...

Clinically, a cachectic and stunted boy, weight and height SD scores were -5,05 and -3,65 respectively. He had fever, anaemia, splenomegaly and polyartrhitis. There was complete immobility and severe pain of his lumbar spine. Xrays revealed compression fractures of all lumbar vertebrae. Bone mass densitometry confirmed severe osteoporosis (Z-score -4.5 SD). ESR: 33, Hb: 7.4 g/dl, CRP 112 mg/dl.

BACKGROUND The precise knowledge of anatomy and the region of transverse process (TP) and superior articular processes (AP) and their distance from the skin are important in blocking and treating lumbar facet syndrome. Evaluation of these anatomic distances from 3rd and 5th lumbar vertebrae in both sides and in different body mass index (BMI) in healthy volunteers might improve knowledge of ult...

Dietary calcium (Ca) supplementation has beneficial effects on bone health. However, it is not clear whether a high calcium diet (HCD) following 5/6 nephrectomy (5/6 Nx) is beneficial to bone health. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of an HCD on bone metabolism using a chronic kidney disease (CKD) mouse model. Male C57BL/6J mice were divided into three groups: Sham group,...

Aim of this study was to perform a detailed clinical validation of a new fully automatic algorithm for vertebral interface segmentation in echographic images. Abdominal echographic scans of lumbar vertebrae L1–L4 were carried out on 150 female subjects with variable age and body mass index (BMI). Acquired datasets were automatically processed by the algorithm and the accuracy of the obtained se...
