considering the nonlinear hyperelastic or viscoelastic nature of soft tissues has an important effect on modeling results. in medicalapplications, accounting nonlinearity begets an ill posed problem, due to absence of external force. myocardium can be consideredas a hyperelastic material, and variational approaches are proposed to estimate stiffness matrix, which take into account the linearand...
Evaporation is an essential component of hydrological cycle. Several meteorologicalfactors play role in the amount of pan evaporation. These factors are often related to eachother. In this study, a multiple linear regression (MLR) in conjunction with PrincipalComponent Analysis (PCA) was used for modeling of pan evaporation. After thestandardization of the variables, independent components were...
The Water Framework Directive requires the assessment of the ecological status of transitional waters considering the fish component. An original methodology, based on a pressure-impact approach, was established to develop a multimetric fish-based index to characterize the ecological quality of French estuaries. An index of contamination, based on the chemical pollution affecting aquatic system...
We propose a new estimator to combat the multicollinearity in the linear model when there are stochastic linear restrictions on the regression coefficients. The new estimator is constructed by combining the ordinary mixed estimator (OME) and the principal components regression (PCR) estimator, which is called the stochastic restricted principal components (SRPC) regression estimator. Necessary ...
An emulator is a statistical model of a deterministic function, to be used where the function itself is too expensive to evaluate within-the-loop of an inferential calculation. Typically, emulators are deployed when dealing with complex functions that have large and heterogeneous input and output spaces: environmental models, for example. In this challenging situation we should be sceptical abo...
This prospective study aimed to examine the impact of fracture incidence on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among postmenopausal women. Study subjects were Australian female community-dwellers in the Global Longitudinal Study of Osteoporosis in Women (GLOW). Self-administered questionnaires were collected annually from 2007 to 2010. Outcomes were the Medical Outcomes Study Short Form-36 ...
We have analyzed the colorimetric and spectral characteristics of 2600 daylight spectra (global spectral irradiances on a horizontal surface) measured for all sky states during a 2-year period at Granada, Spain. We describe in detail the chromaticity coordinates, correlated color temperatures (CCT), luminous efficacies, and relative UV and IR contents of Granada daylight. The chromaticity coord...
Visual performance on many simple pattern discrimination tasks can be accurately predicted by quasi-linear models composed of oriented linear filters followed by simple contrast nonlinearities. However, many complex discrimination tasks require highly nonlinear processes for their explanation. Evidence is provided for two nonlinear processes in pattern discrimination: (i) one process involves a...
This paper studies group selection for the partially linear model with a diverging number of parameters. We propose an adaptive group bridge method and study the consistency, convergence rate and asymptotic distribution of the global adaptive group bridge estimator under regularity conditions. Simulation studies and a real example show the finite sample performance of our method.
