desertification could be traced back to one or many factors. thus, to cope with such a phenomenon, there exists a need for a profound understanding of the processes and the causes. the study area of the current paper is the extent of shahrekord’s marghzar as an important case amongst the important ones of the province. in order to evaluate the roots of desertification in the area, the iranian m...

Governments sometimes need to analyse sets of research papers within a field in order to monitor progress, assess the effect of recent policy changes, or identify areas of excellence. They may compare the average citation impacts of the papers by dividing them by the world average for the field and year. Since citation data is highly skewed, however, simple averages may be too imprecise to robu...

A number of operational and geometric factors impact the safety of at-grade intersections. Examples include the type of traffic control, the existence of left-turn lanes, and adequate sight distance. Determining whether an intersection of particular geometric design has unusual crash patterns could help identify those locations that need additional safety evaluation. During the last two years, ...

Employing a geometric setting inspired by the proof of the Fundamental Lemma, we study some counting problems related to the average size of 2-Selmer groups and hence obtain an estimate for it.

To establish comprehensive criteria for detecting restenosis and remodeling, inter- and intraobserver reproducibility of quantitative arteriography in the analysis of 20 lesions immediately after and 6 months after percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) were assessed. Geometric single-plane (minimum, maximum, mean diameter and percent diameter stenosis), biplane (absolute and rel...

OF THE DISSERTATION Various Geometric Aspects of Condensed Matter Physics by Zhenyu Zhou Doctor of Philosophy in Physics Washington University in St. Louis, 2013 Professor Alexander Seidel, Chairperson Geometric aspect of condensed matter has arouse a lot of interests in recent years. The idea of Berry phase is highly appreciated in various systems. We explored the geometric features of two spe...

In this short paper, we present GOAFRPC, an improvement of the GOAFR algorithm for geometric ad-hoc routing. We show that GOAFRPC is average-case more efficient, while it keeps the asymptotical worse-case optimality of GOAFR.

The problem of computing the minimum-angle bounding cone of a set of three-dimensional vectors has numerous applications in computer graphics and in geometric modeling. One such application is bounding the tangents of space curves or the vectors normal to a surface in the computation of the intersection of two surfaces. Surprisingly, no optimal-time exact solution to this problem has been yet g...

This study evaluated the prevalence of contamination of water that was used for food preparation. Since protozoal cysts can be found in small numbers in water, 1,000 liters of either untreated or treated water were filtered through activated carbon block filters (1 microm nominal porosity). Identification of protozoa was performed using specific monoclonal antibodies against Giardia and Cryptos...
