Abscisic acid (ABA), auxins, cytokinins, gibberellic acid, alone or in combination were tested for their effects on short-term sucrose uptake in sugar beet (Beta vulgaris cv USH-20) roots. The effect of ABA on active sucrose uptake varied from no effect to the more generally observed 1.4-to 3.0-fold stimulation. A racemic mixture of ABA and its trans isomer were more stimulatory than ABA alone....

BACKGROUND The low survival rate of in vitro regenerated Panax ginseng plantlets after transfer to soil is the main obstacle for their successful micropropagation and molecular breeding. In most cases, young plantlets converted from somatic embryos are transferred to soil. METHODS In vitro thickened taproots, which were produced after prolonged culture of ginseng plantlets, were transferred t...

Green skin (hull) of pistachio fruits is a barrier against the penetration of fungi and insects into the kernel of pistachio. Splitting of husk facilitates the entry of fungi and infection of pistachio kernels during the harvest. So far no effective way has been reported for controlling this problem. To evaluate the effects of gibberellic acid on hull spliting the present research was conducted...

Joint application of gibberellic acid and indole-3-acetic acid to excised stem sections, terminal cuttings, and decapitated plants of a green dwarf pea results in a markedly synergistic growth response to these hormones. Synergism in green tall pea stem sections is comparatively small, although growth is kinetically indistinguishable from similarly treated dwarf sections.Gibberellin-induced gro...

Potamogeton nodosus tubers produce floating-type instead of submersed-type leaves when exposed to 10(-5) molar synthetic abscisic acid. Abscisic acid-induced leaves have stomata on upper leaf surfaces and higher width/length ratios than controls. These effects are wholly or partially overcome by simultaneous exposure to abscisic acid combined with gibberellic acid, kinetin, or benzyladenine.

Kinetin in concentrations of 10(-8) to 10(-4)m, stimulated ethylene production in 3 and 4-day old etiolated seedlings of Alaska pea (Pisum sativum L. var. Alaska). Seedlings of other species responded similarly. The response to kinetin depended on the age of the seedlings.Kinetin alone did not influence ethylene production in 6-day old stem sections, but it greatly increased the enhancing effec...
