In this paper we consider propositional calculi, which are finitely axiomatizable extensions of intuitionistic implicational propositional calculus together with the rules of modus ponens and substitution. We give a proof of undecidability of the following problem for these calculi: whether a given finite set of propositional formulas constitutes an adequate axiom system for a fixed proposition...

In this paper, we examine how the complexity of domain-independent planning with STRIPS-style operators depends on the nature of the planning operators. We show conditions under which planning is decidable and undecidable. Our results on this topic solve an open problem posed by Chapman [5], and clear up some difficulties with his undecidability theorems. For those cases where planning is decid...

Certain classes of problems amenable to description using Problem Frames, in particular ones intended to be implemented using a distributed architecture, can benefit by the addition of a cardinality specification on the domain interfaces. This paper presents an example of such a problem, demonstrates the need for relationship cardinality, and proposes a notation to represent cardinality on doma...

Every function over the natural numbers has an infinite subdomain on which the function is non-decreasing. Motivated by a question of Dzhafarov and Schweber, we study the reverse mathematics of variants of this statement. It turns out that this statement restricted to computably bounded functions is computationally weak and does not imply the existence of the halting set. On the other hand, we ...

The desire to play on one or a few keys of a keyboard, works for orchestra or chamber music which are far beyond the gestural capabilities of a pianist with his both hands is at the origin of this theory and its application in music. The study of a two-switch device driving a data file shows all the ways to trigger, maintain, halt an event, to synchronize it with another, or to have it overlap ...

This work presents a literature review of multiple classifier systems based on the dynamic selection of classifiers. First, it briefly reviews some basic concepts and definitions related to such a classification approach and then it presents the state of the art organized according to a proposed taxonomy. In addition, a two-step analysis is applied to the results of the main methods reported in...

This paper presents a taxonomy of possible synchronization relationships between pairs of items in multimedia documents. Several existing approaches to the synchronization of entire items are reviewed. We then discuss classes of synchronization based upon dynamic events or conditions occurring within media items and their internal structure. We present a taxonomy of seventy-two possible such re...

We study the problem of computing conditional probabilities, a fundamental operation in statistics and machine learning. In the elementary discrete setting, a ratio of probabilities defines conditional probability. In the abstract setting, conditional probability is defined axiomatically and the search for more constructive definitions is the subject of a rich literature in probability theory a...

We investigate the exploration of networks by a mobile agent. It is long known that, without global information about the graph, it is not possible to make the agent halts after the exploration except if the graph is a tree. We therefore endow the agent with binoculars, a sensing device that can show the local structure of the environment at a constant distance of the agent current location. We...

A new model of evolutionary system (ES for short) is constructed, based of definitions and notation from [2]. Some results are obtained, namely any language can be generated by a darwinist ES, by a 3 − ES. Also, a very promising concept, that of halting ES is proposed; we believe that it will have many further applications.
