Hepatitis C virus (HCV) sequences were detected in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in 8 of 13 HCV-positive patients. In four patients harboring different virus strains in serum and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), CSF-derived virus was similar to that found in PBMC, which suggests that PBMC could carry HCV into the brain.

Current hepatitis C virus (HCV) treatment guidelines recommend treating HCV/human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-coinfected individuals similar to HCV-monoinfected individuals. Recently inferior response rates to direct acting antiviral (DAA) therapy in HCV/HIV coinfection have been reported. Our German hepatitis C cohort (GECCO) cohort data show that coinfected patients with liver cirrhosis are ...

Background and Aim: HBV (hepatitis B virus), HCV (hepatitis C virus) and HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) are among important infectious agents in prisoners. Intravenous addicts in prisons are one of the high risk groups and are more susceptible to such viral infections. There are many reports suggesting that prevalence of HBV, HCV and HIV is higher in prisoners. The present study was carried...

INTRODUCTION In this study, we evaluated hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) - platelet interactions in vitro as well as human platelets antigen (HPA) polymorphisms. METHODS Platelets were obtained from 100 healthy HPA-genotyped volunteer donors and incubated with HIV or HCV. The viral load after in vitro exposure was detected. RESULTS The viral load in the platel...

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) quasispeciation was studied in two children vertically coinfected with HCV and human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). HCV quasispecies diversification and liver injury were more significant in patient C1, who was immunocompetent with anti-HIV therapy, than in patient C2, who was immunosuppressed, in consistency with modulation of HCV quasispeciation and liver injur...

We show that hepatitis C virus (HCV) p7 protein forms ion channels in black lipid membranes. HCV p7 ion channels are inhibited by long-alkyl-chain iminosugar derivatives, which have antiviral activity against the HCV surrogate bovine viral diarrhea virus. HCV p7 presents a potential target for antiviral therapy.

While exploring previous findings that ex vivo treatment of lymphoid cells from Hepatitis C virus (HCV)-infected individuals with T cell-stimulating mitogens augments detection of the residing virus, an in vitro HCV replication system was established, in which mitogen-induced T cell-enriched cultures served as HCV targets and the derived T cells multiplied virus during repeated serial passage. ...

Introduction: Blood derived products have been known as an effective treatment for many years. However, this treatment is not without risk of infections transmission including hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human immune-deficiency virus (HIV) in people who received the blood. Nevertheless, due to a high risk of blood born diseases through blood transfusion, screening ...

results the mean age of children was 6.5 ± 4.2 years. the frequency of positive results for hbsag, anti-hbs and anti-hcv in all age groups were 12 (3.6%), 47 (14.2%) and 2 (0.6%), respectively. anti-hiv was not detected in any of the children's serum samples. the frequency of positive results for hbsag was significantly higher in children older than six years than in other age groups. conclusio...

We compared hepatitis B virus (HBV) surface antigen, anti-hepatitis C virus (HCV) antibody, and HCV RNA quantification in frozen and freeze-dried serum samples to assess the usefulness of freeze-dried sera for detection of HBV and HCV. The results indicated that freeze-dried sera as well as frozen sera can be useful for serological and molecular biological analyses of HBV and HCV.
