BACKGROUND Quality of healthcare is an important determinant of future progress in global health. However, the distributional aspects of quality of care have received inadequate attention. We assessed whether high quality maternal care is equitably distributed by (1) mapping the quality of maternal care in facilities located in poorer versus wealthier areas of Kenya; and (2) comparing the quali...

BACKGROUND In 2010, the American Heart Association developed a new definition of ideal cardiovascular health (CVH) based on seven cardiovascular health metrics. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between modified ideal CVH metrics and the risk of stroke in the rural population of Northeast China. METHODS We included 11,417 adults from the rural population in Northeast China and ...

In this paper, we study a special class of generalized Douglas-Weyl metrics whose Douglas curvature is constant along any Finslerian geodesic. We prove that for every Landsberg metric in this class of Finsler metrics, ? = 0 if and only if H = 0. Then we show that every Finsler metric of non-zero isotropic flag curvature in this class of metrics is a Riemannian if and only if ? = 0.

BACKGROUND The major cardiovascular risk factors and existing cardiovascular disease have been linked to increased risk of the frailty syndrome. However, the association between ideal cardiovascular health and the risk of frailty in older adults is uncertain. METHODS AND RESULTS Prospective cohort study of 1745 individuals (≥60 years and free of cardiovascular disease) recruited during 2008 t...

While it is important to be able evaluate and measure a country’s performance in health research (HR), HR systems are complex multifaceted nature. As such, attempts at measurement can suffer several limitations which risk leading inadequate indices or representations. In this study, we critically review common indicators of capacity explore their strengths limitations. The paper informed by dat...
