The use of halotolerant acidophiles for bioleaching provides a biotechnical approach for the extraction of metals from regions where high salinity exists in the ores and source water. Here, we describe the first draft genome of a new species of a halotolerant and iron- and sulfur-oxidizing acidophile, Acidihalobacter ferrooxidans DSM 14175 (strain V8).
A chemolithotrophic ammonium-oxidizing bacterium that was able to reduce NO(2) to N(2) (m/z 30) while oxidizing ammonium under conditions of oxygen stress was isolated from stream sediments. Energy was derived from ammonium oxidation, as evidence by growth, with CO(2) serving as the sole C source. The organism was a gram-negative, motile, short rod that failed to grow either aerobically or anae...
A strain of Leptospirillum sp. CC previously isolated from Akhtala polymetallic ore (Armenia) was studied. The main morphological and physiological characteristics were revealed. optimal growth temperature 40 °C pH 1.5. phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences (GenBank ID OM272948) showed that isolate clustered with L. ferriphilum possessed 99.8% sequence similarity the OL12-2 (KF...
Nowadays, recycling Li-ion batteries is an important thing to do minimize the risk of exposure this hazardous solid waste. On other hand, extracting these materials can optimize economic potential valuable minerals in active cathode. Bioleaching was developed as environmentally friendly method extract cobalt from cathode by utilizing metabolic activity A. ferrooxidants cells. Microorganisms wer...
A Comparative Study on Bioleaching Properties of Various Sulfide Minerals Using Acidiphilium cryptum
Bioleaching has been regarded as a green alternative to chemical leaching in metal extraction processes. In this study, the bioleaching properties of indigenous acidophilic bacteria for various sulfide minerals were compared and evaluated terms pH reduction leaching. The primary samples sphalerite (ZnS) (SP), galena (PbS) (GN1 GN2), pyrite (FeS2) (PY), chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) (CCP), an bacterium,...
Feeding ecology of organisms associated with floating Sargassum in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico was assessed using fatty acids. Nineteen groups were collected from the Sargassum community including four autotrophs, eight invertebrates, five juvenile fishes, and two adult fishes. Spatial and temporal variability in polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) signatures of selected taxa (Sargassum fluit...
