The complexity of humic substances (HS) and their properties in agricultural applications have attracted the attention many researchers. However, controversial results been obtained, because difficulty identifying a precise relationship between structure activity these substances. This study aimed to evaluate influence different frequencies concentrations on behavior physical, chemical microbio...

The present study investigated the association of a C60 water suspension (nC6) with natural organic matter, present as a soil constituent or dissolved in the water column, and its effect on the antibacterial activity of nC60. Sorption of nC60 to soil reduced its bioavailability and antibacterial activity, and the sorption capacity strongly depended on the organic content of the soil. Adsorption...

Numerous studies have shown the ability of humic substances to improve plant development. This action is normally reflected in an enhancement of crop yields and quality. However, the mechanisms responsible for this action of humic substances remain rather unknown. Our studies have shown that the shoot promoting action of sedimentary humic acids is dependent of its ability to increase root hydra...

Organic matter, compost, humus, humates, humic acid, and fulvic acid are all related to, and parts of, decaying plant materials. It’s food for soil life and a storehouse for minerals, energy and water. These organic materials are mediums for certain organisms to grow on. The biological/organic farming system is based on balanced minerals and lots of soil life in terms of diversity and volume. S...

The costly disposal of the semisolid residual pomace generated in the two phase extraction used in modern olive mills is causing serious problems to the small oil producers of rural southeastern Spain. Composting may be a viable alternative since complementary residues are usually available in these areas to prepare an adequate starting mixture. In this work, four different combinations of resi...

Three different gels (Sepharose 4B, Sephadex G-200, and Sephadex G-50) were evaluated as a means of removing humic contaminants from DNA extracts of environmental samples. Sepharose 4B gave superior separation of DNA from humics, and DNA purified in this way showed consistently greater amplification than DNA purified by the other materials.

It is well established that changes to the chemical environment can impair development, physiology and reproductive biology; by contrast, impacts on communication have not been widely reported. This is surprising given that chemical communication is the most widely used sensory modality in nature, and that variation in the chemical composition of the environment is the rule, not the exception. ...
